Little Giant Automatic Egg Turner Model 6300 Instruction Manual

Model: 6300 | Brand: Little Giant

1. Overview

The Little Giant Automatic Egg Turner (Model 6300) is designed to simplify the egg incubation process by automatically rotating eggs. This prevents the yolk from settling to one side and promotes healthy embryo development, eliminating the need for manual turning. It is compatible with Little Giant Circulated-Air and Still-Air Incubators.

  • Automatic Turning: Safely rotates eggs to prevent yolk settling and exercise the embryo.
  • Capacity: Accommodates up to 41 large chicken or pheasant eggs.
  • Compatibility: Fits Little Giant Circulated-Air or Still-Air Incubators.
  • Easy to Clean: Egg cups are dishwasher safe for convenient cleaning.
  • Versatile: Can be adapted for quail and other small eggs with separately sold quail rails.

2. Setup

  1. Placement in Incubator: Place the automatic egg turner inside the incubator. Ensure it sits securely on all four corners over the wire mesh screen. This step must be completed before adjusting the internal temperature, as the heat generated by the electric motor will influence temperature readings.
  2. Power Cord Alignment: Align the power cord with the molded notches in both the bottom and top sections of the incubator to ensure a proper fit and prevent damage to the cord.
  3. Egg Placement: Carefully place eggs into the egg cups of the automatic egg turner with the small end of each egg facing downwards.

Important Note: It is recommended to use a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protected outlet for all Little Giant electrical products to ensure safety.

3. Operation

Automatic Egg Turning Cycle

The Automatic Egg Turner completes one full side-to-side turning cycle over a period of four hours. This cycle consists of:

  • Hour 1: Eggs tilt 30 degrees in one direction.
  • Hour 2: Eggs return to the center position.
  • Hour 3: Eggs tilt 30 degrees in the opposite direction.
  • Hour 4: Eggs return to the center position, completing the cycle.

The movement is very slow and may not be immediately visible. You can verify operation by checking the egg position every hour during the initial setup.

Caution: Never manually move the egg turner's control arms, as this can damage the motor.

Monitoring and Adding Water

Regularly monitor the incubator's internal temperature and humidity throughout the entire hatching cycle. If additional humidity is required, follow these steps to add water:

  1. Carefully remove the incubator lid.
  2. Gently move one or two eggs that are positioned directly above the moisture channels.
  3. Add water to the moisture channels.
  4. Carefully replace the moved eggs.
  5. Repeat this process for other moisture channels as needed.
  6. Replace the incubator lid securely.

Perform this process gently and as quickly as possible to minimize fluctuations in the internal temperature of the incubator.

4. Maintenance and Cleaning

Discontinuing Use for Hatching

Approximately three days prior to the anticipated hatching time, it is necessary to discontinue the use of the automatic egg turner. This period is often referred to as "lockdown" and allows the eggs to settle before hatching.

  1. Unplug the egg turner from the power outlet.
  2. Remove the lid from the incubator.
  3. Carefully lift the automatic egg turner, along with the eggs, out of the incubator and set them gently aside.
  4. Return the eggs to the incubator, placing them directly on the wire mesh screen at the bottom. Handle eggs gently and quickly to maintain stable internal temperature.
  5. Replace the incubator lid.

Cleaning the Egg Turner

After use, the automatic egg turner can be disassembled for thorough cleaning. All components, except for the electric motor and power cord, are dishwasher safe.

  1. Disconnect Connecting Rod: Disconnect the connecting rod from the motor offset arm by gently pulling it outwards until the two parts snap apart.
  2. Remove Rails: Move the connecting rod until all the egg rails are in a vertical position. Lift each rail upwards and out of the unit.
  3. Clean Components: Wash the disassembled egg rails and other non-electrical components in a dishwasher or by hand with warm, soapy water. Ensure they are thoroughly dry before reassembly or storage.

5. Quail Rails Installation (Optional Accessory)

For hatching quail or similarly sized small poultry, the Little Giant Model 6302 Quail Rails (sold separately) can be installed to replace the large egg rails.

Installation Steps:

  1. Ensure the large egg rails have been removed as described in the "Cleaning the Egg Turner" section.
  2. Take each quail rail and insert the pin through the hole located at the back of the base.
  3. Slide the control arm of the quail rail into the notch at the front of the base.
  4. Repeat this process for all quail rails.
  5. To secure the rails, use the quail rail box (or similar support) to hold the rails in place. Rotate each control arm 90 degrees until all rails are in a vertical position.
  6. Carefully lift the connecting rod and gently snap each control arm into its final position.
  7. Reattach the connecting rod to the motor offset arm by snapping it back together.

Important: When placing eggs on the quail rails, ensure the four cups nearest to the electric motor are left empty. This is crucial for proper motor operation and to prevent strain.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Turner Not Moving:
    • Check if the egg turner is properly plugged into a functional outlet.
    • Ensure the power cord is correctly aligned in the incubator's notches.
    • Verify that the connecting rod is securely attached to the motor offset arm.
    • Confirm that the four egg cups nearest the motor are empty (especially with quail rails) to avoid motor strain.
    • Remember the turning motion is very slow; observe for an hour to confirm movement.
  • Temperature Fluctuations:
    • Ensure the egg turner was placed inside the incubator before temperature calibration.
    • Check for proper lid seating and insulation of the incubator.
    • Avoid frequent opening of the incubator lid.
  • Humidity Issues:
    • Ensure moisture channels have adequate water.
    • Use distilled water to prevent mineral buildup.
    • Adjust the amount of water in the channels as needed for desired humidity levels.
