Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, programming, operation, and maintenance of your Genie GWKPD-BL Wireless Keypad with Intellicode. This keypad is designed for use with Genie Intellicode garage door openers manufactured after 1995. Please read these instructions carefully before proceeding with setup.
Product Overview

This image displays the Genie GWKPD-BL Wireless Keypad. The top portion, covered by a flip-up lid, shows detailed programming instructions. The lower portion features the numeric keypad (0-9), a 'PROGRAM' button, and up/down arrow keys, with the Genie logo at the bottom.
The Genie GWKPD-BL Wireless Keypad offers convenient access to your garage without the need for a remote control. It features a backlit keypad for visibility in low light conditions and is compatible with Genie Intellicode systems.
Setup and Programming
Step 1: Setting Up Your Personal Identification Number (PIN)
- Press the PROGRAM button on the keypad.
- Use the UP/DOWN arrow keys to select a number (0-9).
- Enter your new PIN, which must be between 3 and 8 characters long.
- The keypad will display "KEYPAD PROGRAMMED" upon successful PIN entry.
Step 2: Programming the Opener
This step links your keypad to your garage door opener. The exact location of the programming button on your opener may vary depending on its style.
- Locate the PROGRAM or Learn Code Button on your garage door opener. Press this button. The opener's LED light will begin to flash.
- On the keypad, enter your previously set PIN.
- Press the UP/DOWN arrow key on the keypad. The opener's LED light should turn ON steadily.
- Press the UP/DOWN arrow key again. The opener's LED light should turn OFF.
- Press the UP/DOWN arrow key one more time. The garage door opener should activate (RUN).
Operating the Keypad
Opening/Closing the Garage Door
- Enter your personal PIN on the keypad.
- Press the UP/DOWN arrow key. The garage door opener will activate, either opening or closing the door.
Temporary PIN Feature
The keypad supports a temporary access code feature, allowing you to grant temporary access to visitors or service personnel without sharing your primary PIN. Consult the full product documentation for detailed instructions on setting and managing temporary PINs.
Maintenance
Battery Replacement
The keypad is powered by a 9V alkaline battery. If the keypad's backlight does not illuminate when a button is pressed, the battery needs to be replaced.
- Open the battery compartment, typically located on the back of the keypad.
- Remove the old 9V battery.
- Insert a new 9V alkaline battery, ensuring correct polarity.
- Close the battery compartment securely.
Troubleshooting
- Keypad not responding or flashing red LED: If buttons are pressed too quickly, the keypad may become unresponsive and flash a red LED. Wait a few seconds for the keypad to reset, then re-enter your PIN at a moderate pace.
- Forgotten PIN or changing PIN: To change your PIN, you will typically need to clear the old one and then reprogram the keypad with a new PIN, followed by reprogramming your garage door opener as if it were a new remote.
- Clearing all existing codes from opener: If you need to clear all programmed remotes and keypads from your garage door opener (e.g., for security reasons or to resolve programming conflicts), press and hold the 'Learn' button on your garage door opener for several seconds until the learn light goes out. This action will erase all previous codes, requiring all remotes and keypads to be reprogrammed.
- Door not opening after successful programming: Ensure the keypad is within range of the garage door opener. Check for any obstructions that might prevent the door from moving. Verify that the opener itself is receiving power.
