2. Safety Information

Please read and understand all safety instructions before using the tool. Failure to follow these instructions may result in injury or damage to the tool.

  • Always wear appropriate eye protection when using cutting tools.
  • Keep fingers clear of the cutting jaws during operation.
  • Do not use the tool to cut materials exceeding its specified capacity (e.g., copper wire 0.8mm).
  • This tool is designed for cutting soft materials like copper wire and plastic. Do not use it for cutting steel wire or other hard materials.
  • Store the tool in a dry, safe place, out of reach of children.
  • The handles are ESD-safe, but proper grounding practices should still be followed when working with sensitive electronic components.

3. Product Features

  • Compact Size: 112mm length, ideal for detailed work in confined spaces.
  • Undercut Jaws: Specifically designed for flush cutting in dense and intricate areas, such as on Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs).
  • ESD-Safe Handles: Cushioned handles made of TPR Elastomer provide comfort and protect sensitive electronic components from electrostatic discharge.
  • Opening Angle Adjuster: Allows setting the maximum jaw opening, reducing hand fatigue during repetitive tasks.
  • Coiled Spring: Provides smooth opening action, enhancing efficiency for repeated cutting.
  • High Carbon Steel: Jaws are constructed from hardened high carbon steel for durability and sharp cutting performance.
  • Cutting Capacity: Maximum 0.8mm for copper wire.

4. Setup

  1. Unboxing: Carefully remove the side cutter from its packaging.
  2. Inspection: Inspect the tool for any signs of damage or manufacturing defects. Do not use if damaged.
  3. Familiarization: Gently open and close the handles to feel the spring action and observe the jaw movement.
  4. Adjusting Jaw Opening (Optional): If desired, use the integrated adjuster to limit the maximum opening angle of the jaws for specific repetitive tasks.

5. Operating Instructions

  1. Grip: Hold the side cutter firmly with the ESD-safe handles.
  2. Positioning: Place the material to be cut between the jaws. Ensure the material is within the tool's cutting capacity (e.g., copper wire up to 0.8mm).
  3. Cutting: Apply steady pressure to the handles to close the jaws and cut the material. The undercut design allows for flush cuts.
  4. Repetitive Work: The coiled spring will automatically open the jaws after each cut, facilitating continuous operation.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: After each use, wipe the jaws and handles with a clean, dry cloth to remove any debris or residue.
  • Lubrication: Periodically apply a small amount of light machine oil to the pivot point to ensure smooth operation.
  • Storage: Store the side cutter in a protective pouch or tool box to prevent damage to the cutting edges. Keep it in a dry environment to prevent rust.
  • Inspection: Regularly check the cutting edges for nicks or dullness. Sharpening is generally not recommended for precision tools; replacement may be necessary if edges are severely damaged.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Jaws do not close completely.Debris caught between jaws or pivot.Clean jaws and pivot area thoroughly.
Difficulty cutting material.Material too hard or thick; dull cutting edges.Ensure material is within specified capacity. If edges are dull, consider tool replacement.
Handles feel stiff.Lack of lubrication at pivot point.Apply a small amount of light machine oil to the pivot.
