3. Setup

3.1 Unpacking the Printer

Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Verify that all items listed in the packing list are present. Retain the packaging for future storage or transport.

3.2 Power Supply

The KL-820 operates on 6 AA alkaline batteries (not included) or an optional AC adapter (not included). To install batteries:

  1. Open the battery compartment cover on the bottom of the printer.
  2. Insert 6 AA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  3. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

3.3 Loading a Label Tape Cartridge

The printer uses Casio EZ-Label Printer tapes. To load a tape cartridge:

  1. Ensure the printer is turned off.
  2. Open the tape compartment cover located on the top-right side of the printer.
  3. Insert the tape cartridge firmly into the compartment, ensuring the tape feeds correctly into the printer mechanism.
  4. Close the tape compartment cover until it clicks into place.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Turning On/Off

Press the ON/OFF button to turn the printer on or off.

4.2 Entering Text

Use the QWERTY keyboard to type your desired text. The text will appear on the 4-line display.

4.3 Selecting Font and Style

Press the FONT button to cycle through the 5 available fonts. Use the STYLE button to select print styles such as Normal, Outline, Bold, Shadow, or Raised. The display will show a preview of your selection.

4.4 Printing a Label

After entering text and selecting your desired font and style:

  1. Press the PRINT button.
  2. Confirm the print settings on the display.
  3. Press ENTER to start printing.
  4. Once the label is printed, use the built-in cutter to cut the label.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning the Printer

To maintain optimal print quality, regularly clean the print head and tape path. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior of the printer. For the print head, use a cotton swab lightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol. Ensure the printer is off and disconnected from any power source before cleaning.

5.2 Replacing Tape Cartridges

When the tape cartridge is empty or you wish to change tape types, follow the loading instructions in Section 3.3 in reverse to remove the old cartridge, then insert the new one.

6. Troubleshooting

6.1 No Power

  • Check if batteries are correctly inserted and not depleted. Replace if necessary.
  • If using an AC adapter, ensure it is properly connected to both the printer and a working power outlet.

6.2 Poor Print Quality

  • Clean the print head as described in Section 5.1.
  • Ensure the tape cartridge is correctly installed and not damaged.
  • Verify that the tape is not old or expired.

6.3 Tape Jam

  • Turn off the printer and open the tape compartment cover.
  • Carefully remove the jammed tape. Do not pull forcefully.
  • Reinsert the tape cartridge, ensuring it is properly seated.
