DigiTech HT-2

DigiTech HT-2 HardWire Chromatic Tuner Pedal User Manual

Model: HT-2

1. Introduction

The DigiTech HT-2 HardWire Chromatic Tuner is designed as a foundational component for your pedal chain. It provides precise tuning capabilities without compromising your instrument's tone. When active, it offers accurate tuning; when bypassed, it ensures your signal remains unaffected. This manual provides instructions for setup, operation, and maintenance of your HT-2 pedal.

2. Key Features

  • High-Accuracy Tuning: Provides stable tuning with less than +/- 1 cent deviation, indicated by a blue "In Tune" LED.
  • True Bypass: Circuitry designed to preserve your instrument's tone when the pedal is in bypass mode.
  • Constant High-Voltage Operation: Maintains tonal quality and reduces noise by operating at a consistent, higher voltage.
  • Durable Construction: Built for touring musicians, featuring Stomplock™ guards to protect controls.
  • Included Accessories: Comes with green gaffer tape for visibility in low light and custom-cut Velcro® pads for pedalboard mounting.

3. Setup

3.1 Powering the Pedal

The HT-2 pedal can be powered by a 9V DC battery or an external power adapter (PS200R series, specific to region). The pedal operates at a constant voltage to ensure consistent performance.

  • Battery Installation: The pedal requires one 9V DC battery (included). To install, open the battery compartment on the underside of the pedal.
  • External Power: Connect a compatible 9V DC power adapter to the power input jack.

3.2 Connecting Your Instrument

  1. Connect your instrument (guitar, bass, etc.) to the Input jack using a standard 1/4" unbalanced (Tip-Sleeve) instrument cable.
  2. Connect the Output jack to your amplifier or the next pedal in your signal chain using a standard 1/4" unbalanced (Tip-Sleeve) instrument cable.
  3. Ensure all connections are secure before powering on your amplifier.

4. Operation

4.1 Basic Tuning

To activate the tuner, press the footswitch. The display will illuminate, and your instrument's signal will be muted (unless "Thru" mode is selected, see below). Strum a single string on your instrument.

  • The large LED display will show the detected note.
  • The "In Tune" LED (blue) will light up when the note is precisely in tune.
  • Adjust your instrument's tuning pegs until the "In Tune" LED is illuminated.
  • Press the footswitch again to bypass the tuner and unmute your signal.

4.2 Tuning Modes and Reference Pitch

The HT-2 offers different tuning modes and allows adjustment of the reference pitch.

  • Tuning Button: Use this button to cycle through different tuning modes (e.g., flat tuning, standard tuning). Refer to the on-screen indicators for the selected mode.
  • Mode Button: This button adjusts the reference pitch (A4 frequency), typically from 437 Hz to 443 Hz. The default standard is 440 Hz.
  • Strobe/Normal Display: The pedal offers both Strobe and Normal display modes for tuning. Select your preferred visual feedback using the appropriate control.

4.3 Mute and Thru Options

The HT-2 provides options for signal routing when the tuner is active.

  • Mute: When the tuner is engaged, the output signal is typically muted, allowing for silent tuning.
  • Thru: Some configurations may allow for a "Thru" signal, where the instrument's signal passes through to the output even when the tuner is active. Consult the pedal's specific settings or switch for this functionality.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the pedal's exterior. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace the 9V battery when the display dims or tuning accuracy is affected. Always dispose of batteries responsibly.
  • Storage: Store the pedal in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Protection: The included Stomplock™ guards help protect the control knobs from accidental adjustments during use.

6. Troubleshooting

  • No Power/Display Not Lighting Up:
    • Check battery charge and ensure it is correctly installed.
    • If using an adapter, verify it is the correct voltage (9V DC) and polarity, and that the power outlet is functional.
  • Inaccurate Tuning / Slow Response:
    • Ensure your instrument's output is strong and clear. Weak signals can affect tuner performance.
    • Check instrument cables for damage or loose connections.
    • Verify the reference pitch (A4) setting is appropriate for your needs (e.g., 440 Hz).
    • Ensure only one string is vibrating when tuning. Mute other strings.
  • No Sound When Tuner is Bypassed:
    • Confirm the pedal is in True Bypass mode (when off, signal should pass).
    • Check all cable connections between the pedal, instrument, and amplifier.
    • If using an external power supply, ensure it is providing sufficient power. HardWire pedals switch to True Bypass if power is lost, but a faulty power supply could still cause issues.
