Product Features

  • Capacity: 150 liters for substantial rainwater collection.
  • Complete Set: Includes a secure lid and an integrated tap for easy water dispensing.
  • Durable Construction: Lightweight, weather-resistant, and unbreakable design.
  • Eco-Friendly: Made from 100% recycled materials, with a minimum of 75% post-consumer waste.
  • Aesthetic Design: Beehive shape with a ceramic-like appearance to complement garden aesthetics.
  • Compatibility: Suitable for use with Sankey Premier stands and standard stands (sold separately).
  • Connection Ready: Can be used with the separately available Sankey connection kit to divert rainwater from downpipes.

Setup Instructions

  1. Choose a Location: Select a flat, stable surface near a downpipe. Ensure the ground can support the weight of the water butt when full (approx. 150 kg).
  2. Install a Stand (Optional but Recommended): If using a stand (e.g., Sankey Premier stand), place it on the chosen flat surface. A stand elevates the water butt, allowing easier access to the tap and enabling filling of watering cans.
  3. Position the Water Butt: Carefully place the water butt onto the stand or directly on the ground. Ensure it is level and stable.
  4. Install the Tap: The water butt comes with a tap. Screw the tap securely into the pre-drilled hole at the bottom of the water butt. Ensure it is hand-tight to prevent leaks.
  5. Connect to Downpipe (Optional): To collect rainwater from your roof, you will need a rain diverter kit (e.g., Sankey connection kit, sold separately). Follow the instructions provided with the diverter kit to connect it to your downpipe and the water butt. This typically involves cutting a section of the downpipe and inserting the diverter, then connecting a hose from the diverter to an inlet on the water butt.

Operating Instructions

Once installed, the Sankey Beehive Water Butt operates passively by collecting rainwater. If connected to a downpipe with a diverter, it will automatically fill during rainfall.

  • Collecting Water: Ensure the lid is securely placed on top to prevent debris from entering and to minimize evaporation. The diverter kit (if installed) will direct water into the butt.
  • Dispensing Water: To access the collected water, turn the tap handle to the 'OPEN' position. Place a watering can or bucket beneath the tap. Turn the handle back to the 'CLOSED' position to stop the flow.
  • Overflow: If the water butt becomes full and a diverter is installed, excess water will typically be redirected back into the downpipe. If no diverter is used, ensure the water butt is placed in an area where overflow will not cause damage or inconvenience.

Maintenance

  • Regular Cleaning: Periodically inspect the inside of the water butt for sediment or algae buildup. If necessary, empty the butt, remove the lid, and clean the interior with a brush and mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly.
  • Tap Maintenance: Check the tap periodically for leaks or blockages. If the flow rate decreases, the tap may need cleaning.
  • Lid Security: Ensure the lid remains securely in place to prevent leaves, insects, and other debris from contaminating the water.
  • Winterization: In freezing conditions, it is recommended to empty the water butt to prevent ice expansion from damaging the unit. Disconnect any diverter kits and store them if necessary.
