Key Features:

5. Setup and Installation

5.1 Choosing a Location

Select a central location in the room where the temperature is representative of the entire area. Avoid placing the thermostat:

5.2 Mounting the Thermostat

  1. Carefully open the thermostat casing.
  2. Mark the desired mounting position on the wall. Ensure it is at an appropriate height (typically 1.5 meters from the floor).
  3. Drill holes and insert the provided wall plugs.
  4. Secure the backplate of the thermostat to the wall using the provided screws.
  5. Insert the batteries (see section 5.3).
  6. Attach the front part of the thermostat to the backplate, ensuring it clicks securely into place.

5.3 Battery Installation

  1. Open the battery compartment cover, usually located on the back or side of the thermostat.
  2. Insert the required batteries (e.g., AA or AAA, check the device for specific type) according to the polarity markings (+/-).
  3. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

5.4 Pairing with Receiver (if applicable)

The INSTAT 868-r1 uses an adaptive address configuration. Refer to the manual of your specific Eberle 868 MHz receiver for detailed pairing instructions. Generally, this involves putting the receiver into pairing mode and then activating the thermostat's pairing function (often by pressing a button or turning the dial to a specific setting).

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Setting the Temperature

To set your desired room temperature, simply rotate the main dial on the front of the thermostat. The current set temperature will be displayed. Turn the dial clockwise to increase the temperature and counter-clockwise to decrease it. The thermostat will then automatically work to maintain this set temperature.

6.2 Frost Protection Function

The thermostat includes a frost protection function. If the room temperature drops below approximately 5°C (adjustable in some models), the heating system will be activated automatically to prevent freezing, even if the thermostat is set to a lower temperature or off. This function is crucial for protecting pipes and property during cold periods.

6.3 Valve Protection Function

To prevent heating valves from seizing up due to prolonged inactivity, the thermostat may periodically activate the heating for a short duration, even when there is no heating demand. This is a normal function designed to extend the life of your heating system components.

6.4 Automatic Operation

Once the desired temperature is set, the thermostat operates automatically. It continuously monitors the room temperature and sends signals to the receiver to turn the heating/cooling system on or off as needed to maintain the set point within its hysteresis range (e.g., 0.5°C).

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

Wipe the thermostat's exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners, sprays, or abrasive materials, as these can damage the casing or internal components.

7.2 Battery Replacement

When the battery indicator appears on the display (if applicable) or the thermostat stops responding, it's time to replace the batteries. Follow the steps in section 5.3 for battery installation. Always replace all batteries at the same time with new ones of the same type.

8. Troubleshooting

  • Check power supply to the receiver.
  • Relocate thermostat closer to receiver or away from interference sources.
  • Adjust temperature setting.
