1. Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your Sealey SA721 Air Sander. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the tool to ensure proper handling and to prevent injury or damage.
The Sealey SA721 is a compact and powerful mini orbital air sander designed for precision sanding tasks, particularly in smaller areas or for spot refinishing. Its composite lightweight housing enhances user comfort and reduces the effects of chill.
2. Safety Instructions
WARNING: Always observe general safety precautions when using power tools. Failure to do so may result in serious injury.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Always wear eye protection (safety glasses/goggles), hearing protection, and a dust mask when operating the sander. Gloves are recommended.
- Work Area: Ensure your work area is clean, well-lit, and free from clutter. Keep children and bystanders away.
- Air Supply:
- Ensure the air compressor is capable of providing the required operating pressure (90psi) and air consumption (3cfm).
- Use clean, dry, regulated air. Moisture in the air line can damage the tool.
- Always disconnect the air supply before changing accessories, performing maintenance, or when the tool is not in use.
- Do not exceed the maximum operating pressure.
- Tool Handling:
- Never carry the tool by the air hose.
- Ensure the tool is switched off before connecting to the air supply.
- Avoid accidental starting.
- Do not force the tool; let the tool do the work.
- Vibration: Prolonged use may cause vibration-related injuries. Take regular breaks and use anti-vibration gloves if necessary.
- Dust: Sanding generates dust. Use appropriate dust extraction methods and work in a well-ventilated area.

4. Setup
- Prepare Air Supply:
- Ensure your air compressor is turned off and depressurized.
- Connect an air hose (minimum 3/8" I.D.) to your compressor.
- Install an in-line air filter/regulator/lubricator unit (FRL) as close to the tool as possible. This is crucial for tool longevity and performance.
- Set the air pressure regulator to 90psi (6.2 bar) when the tool is running.
- Connect Air Sander:
- Apply thread sealant tape to the 1/4" BSP air inlet thread on the sander.
- Screw the air hose quick connector (not supplied) onto the sander's air inlet.
- Connect the air hose to the sander.
- Attach Sanding Disc:
- Ensure the air supply is disconnected.
- Select a Ø75mm hook-and-loop sanding disc appropriate for your application.
- Align the disc with the hook-and-loop pad on the sander and press firmly to secure it.
5. Operating Instructions
- Pre-Operation Check:
- Verify all connections are secure.
- Ensure the sanding disc is properly attached.
- Confirm the air pressure is set correctly.
- Starting the Sander:
- Hold the sander firmly with both hands.
- Press the trigger to start the motor. The speed can be adjusted using the speed control dial on the side of the motor housing.
- Sanding Technique:
- Apply light, even pressure to the workpiece. Do not press too hard, as this can reduce efficiency and damage the tool or workpiece.
- Move the sander in overlapping circular or elliptical patterns for uniform material removal.
- For best results, keep the sanding pad flat against the surface.
- Regularly check the sanding disc for wear and replace as needed.
- Stopping the Sander:
- Release the trigger to stop the motor.
- Always disconnect the air supply when finished or when leaving the tool unattended.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of your Sealey SA721 Air Sander.
- Daily Maintenance:
- Before each use, add a few drops of good quality air tool oil into the air inlet. This lubricates the internal components.
- Empty the water trap on your air compressor and FRL unit daily to prevent moisture from entering the tool.
- Inspect the air hose for wear or damage.
- Cleaning:
- After each use, clean the exterior of the sander with a dry cloth.
- Remove any dust or debris from the sanding pad and around the motor housing.
- Do not use solvents or harsh chemicals, as they may damage the composite housing.
- Storage:
- Store the sander in a clean, dry, and secure location, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Disconnect from air supply before storage.
- Service: Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel.
