Key features of the SDMN5 include:

  • Dual ports for simultaneous pressure measurements (P1 and P2).
  • Ability to calculate pressure differential (P1-P2).
  • A zero adjust button on the meter's face for easy calibration.
  • A rugged rubber boot for enhanced durability and grip.
  • An integrated magnet on the back for convenient hands-free operation during service.
  • Auto Power-Off (APO) function to conserve battery life.
  • Measurement range between -60inWC and 60inWC (Inches of Water Column) and -150.0 to 150.0 mBar.
  • High resolution of 0.01inWC or 0.01mBar for precise static pressure measurements.
  • Includes 3/16” to 5/16” adapters (RMA316) for various gas inlet and outlet pressure measurements.

Setup

1. Battery Installation

The SDMN5 Manometer requires one 9-Volt battery for operation. A battery is typically included with the unit. To install or replace the battery:

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the unit.
  2. Remove the cover.
  3. Insert a fresh 9-Volt battery, ensuring correct polarity.
  4. Replace the battery compartment cover securely.

2. Connecting Pressure Tubes

The manometer features two ports, P1 and P2, for connecting pressure tubes. The unit comes with 2 3/16-inch tubes with brass fittings and 3/16-inch to 5/16-inch tube adapters (RMA316).

  • Connect the appropriate pressure tubes to the P1 and/or P2 ports based on your measurement requirements.
  • Use the provided adapters for different fitting sizes as needed for gas inlet and outlet pressures.
  • Ensure all connections are secure to prevent leaks and ensure accurate readings.

Operating Instructions

1. Power On/Off

To power on the unit, press and hold the ON/OFF button for approximately one second. To power off, press and hold the ON/OFF button again until the display turns off. The Auto Power-Off (APO) function will automatically turn off the unit after a period of inactivity to conserve battery life.

2. Zero Adjustment

Before taking measurements, it is crucial to zero the manometer for accuracy. Ensure both P1 and P2 ports are open to atmospheric pressure (not connected to any pressure source) before performing this step.

  • Press the ZERO button on the face of the meter.
  • The display should show 0.00 for both P1 and P2, indicating successful zeroing.

3. Unit Selection

The SDMN5 can display measurements in various units. To cycle through available units:

  • Press the UNIT button.
  • The display will cycle through units such as inWC (Inches of Water Column), mBar, and potentially others like PSI (if supported by the model's firmware).

4. Taking Measurements

The manometer can measure individual pressures (P1 or P2) and the differential pressure (P1-P2).

  • Individual Pressure (P1 or P2): Connect the pressure source to the desired port (P1 or P2). The display will show the corresponding pressure reading.
  • Pressure Differential (P1-P2): Connect one pressure source to P1 and another to P2. Press the P1/P2 button to toggle between displaying P1, P2, or the calculated difference between P1 and P2.
  • Static Pressure: For static pressure measurements, the resolution can be set down to 0.01inWC or 0.01mBar for precise readings.

5. Hold Function

To hold the current reading on the display:

  • Press the HOLD button.
  • The displayed values will freeze. Press HOLD again to release and resume live readings.

Maintenance

1. Cleaning

Keep the manometer clean by wiping it with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as they may damage the unit or its display. Ensure the ports are free from debris.

2. Battery Replacement

Replace the 9-Volt battery when the low battery indicator appears on the display to ensure continued accurate operation. Refer to the "Battery Installation" section under Setup for detailed instructions.

3. Storage

When not in use for extended periods, store the manometer in a cool, dry place. It is recommended to remove the battery if storing for several months to prevent potential leakage and damage to the unit.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Fieldpiece SDMN5 Manometer, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Display/Unit Not Turning On: Check the 9-Volt battery. Ensure it is properly installed and has sufficient charge. Replace if necessary.
  • Inaccurate Readings:
    • Perform a zero adjustment as described in the "Operating Instructions" section.
    • Verify that pressure tubes are securely connected and free from kinks or blockages.
    • Ensure the correct measurement unit is selected.
  • Erratic Readings: Check for loose connections at the ports or within the pressure system being measured. Ensure the environment is stable and free from sudden temperature changes or vibrations.
