Setup

1. Connecting the Player

The DV-980H offers various connection options for video and audio. Choose the appropriate connection type based on your display and audio receiver capabilities.

Video Connections:

  • HDMI (Recommended): For the best video quality, connect an HDMI cable from the DV-980H's HDMI output to your HDTV's HDMI input. This connection supports up to 1080p resolution and can also carry audio.
  • Component Video: Use component video cables (Red, Green, Blue) for high-definition analog video output to compatible displays.
  • S-Video: For standard definition video, connect an S-Video cable to your display.
  • Composite Video: Use a composite video cable (Yellow) for standard definition video output to older displays.

Audio Connections:

  • HDMI: If using HDMI for video, audio can also be transmitted through the same cable to an HDMI-compatible receiver or TV.
  • 7.1-Channel Analog Audio: Connect individual RCA cables from the 7.1CH Audio Out ports on the player to a 7.1-channel audio receiver for discrete surround sound.
  • 5.1-Channel Analog Audio: Connect individual RCA cables from the 5.1CH Audio Out ports on the player to a 5.1-channel audio receiver.
  • Stereo Analog Audio: Use RCA cables (Red, White) from the Stereo Audio Out ports to a stereo amplifier or TV.
  • Coaxial Digital Audio: Connect a coaxial digital audio cable to a compatible audio receiver for digital stereo or surround sound.
  • Optical Digital Audio: Connect an optical digital audio cable to a compatible audio receiver for digital stereo or surround sound.

2. Powering On

  1. Connect the power cord to the DV-980H and then to an electrical outlet.
  2. Press the Power button on the front panel or the remote control to turn on the player.
  3. Ensure your TV or display and audio receiver are also powered on and set to the correct input source.

3. Initial Settings

Upon first power-on, or after a factory reset, you may need to configure basic settings such as video output resolution, aspect ratio, and audio output preferences. 1. Disc Playback

  1. Ensure the player is powered on and your display/receiver is set to the correct input.
  2. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button on the front panel or remote to open the disc tray.
  3. Place a disc (DVD-Video, DVD-Audio, SACD, CD, HDCD, DivX, XviD) gently into the tray with the label side facing up.
  4. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button again to close the tray. The player will automatically begin reading the disc.
  5. Use the PLAY, PAUSE, STOP, SKIP, and FAST FORWARD/REWIND buttons on the remote control to manage playback.

The DV-980H supports high-definition up-conversion up to 1080p Full HD resolution for standard DVD video discs. Resolutions of 480i, 480p, 720p, and 1080i are also supported over HDMI.

2. USB Playback

The player features a USB 2.0 interface for playing video, picture (HD-JPEG), and music files from compatible USB storage devices.

  1. Insert your USB storage device into the USB port on the front panel of the player.
  2. The player should automatically detect the device and display a menu for selecting media types (Video, Photo, Music). If not, navigate to the USB input via the remote control.
  3. Use the remote control to browse and select files for playback.

Note: Ensure your USB device is formatted as FAT32. Files larger than 4GB may not be supported due to FAT32 limitations.

3. Remote Control Functions

The included remote control provides full functionality for operating the DV-980H. It features dedicated buttons for power, disc tray open/close, playback controls, menu navigation, audio/video settings, and more. Familiarize yourself with the remote's layout for convenient operation.

Maintenance

1. Cleaning the Unit

  • Always disconnect the power cord before cleaning.
  • Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior of the player. Do not use liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.
  • For the disc tray, use a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid touching the lens inside the player.

  • Ensure the USB device is formatted as FAT32.
