3. Setup
3.1 Battery Installation
The BOSS DB-30 metronome requires one Lithium Metal battery for operation. To install or replace the battery:
- Locate the battery compartment on the rear of the unit.
- Open the battery compartment cover.
- Insert one Lithium Metal battery, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
The unit also features a kickstand for angled viewing. Handle the kickstand with care as it is made of thin plastic.

3.2 Powering On/Off
Press the POWER button located on the front panel to turn the unit on or off. The metronome features an auto power-off function to conserve battery life when not in use for an extended period.

4.1 Setting Tempo (BPM)
To adjust the tempo (beats per minute):
- Press the TEMPO/VALUE up (▲) or down (▼) buttons to increase or decrease the BPM.
- The current tempo will be displayed on the LCD screen.
4.2 Setting Rhythm and Beat
The DB-30 allows you to select various rhythm patterns and beat counts:
- Press the RHYTHM/BEAT button to cycle through available rhythm patterns and beat counts.
- Use the TEMPO/VALUE up (▲) or down (▼) buttons to select the desired pattern or beat count.
- The selected rhythm and beat count will be shown on the display.
4.3 Tap Tempo Function
To set the tempo by tapping:
- Repeatedly press the large blue TAP/MUTE button at your desired tempo.
- The metronome will calculate and set the BPM based on your taps.
4.4 Start/Stop and Mute
- Press the large blue START/STOP button to begin or end the metronome click.
- Press the large blue TAP/MUTE button once while the metronome is running to mute the sound temporarily. Press it again to unmute.
4.5 Volume Control and Headphone Use
- Adjust the volume using the VOLUME slider located on the right side of the unit.
- Connect headphones to the PHONES jack on the left side for private practice.
4.6 Note/Pitch Function
The NOTE/PITCH button allows you to access tuning functions or specific note sounds, if available on your model. Refer to the on-screen display for specific options when this button is pressed.
5. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the unit. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Battery Replacement: Replace the battery when the display dims or the unit stops functioning correctly. Always dispose of used batteries responsibly.
- Storage: Store the metronome in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
6. Troubleshooting
