Key Components:

Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect for any damage.
  2. Placement: Place the scale on a firm, level, and stable surface, free from vibrations or drafts. Ensure the surface is clean.
  3. Assembly: Attach the weighing pan to the end of the beam if it is not already connected. Ensure the beam pivots freely.
  4. Zeroing: With the pan empty and all poises set to zero, the pointer should align with the zero mark on the scale. If it does not, use the adjustment screw (if present, typically at the end of the beam or under the pan) to bring the pointer to zero.

Operating Instructions

Measuring Weight:

  1. Prepare the Scale: Ensure the scale is zeroed before each measurement.
  2. Place Item: Carefully place the item to be weighed into the weighing pan.
  3. Adjust Poises:
    • Start with the larger poise (e.g., 10-grain increments) and slide it along the beam until the pointer drops below the zero mark. Then, slide it back one increment.
    • Next, use the smaller poise (e.g., 1-grain or 1/10-grain increments) to fine-tune the balance until the pointer aligns precisely with the zero mark.
  4. Read Measurement: Once balanced, read the weight indicated by the positions of the poises on the beam. The sum of the values from all poises is the total weight.
