- iPod Integration: Compatible with an optional iPod dock (DS-A1(W)) for playback and control via the system's remote.
3. Setup
3.1 Unpacking and Placement
- Carefully remove all components from the packaging.
- Place the amplifier-integrated subwoofer on a stable, flat surface, such as a tabletop. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit.
- Position the two front satellite speakers to the left and right of your viewing area, facing the listening position. For optimal virtual surround effect, ensure they are equidistant from the listener.
3.2 Connecting Speakers
- Connect the supplied speaker cables from the front satellite speakers to the corresponding speaker terminals on the amplifier-integrated subwoofer. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -).
3.3 Connecting Audio Sources
- Digital Sources (e.g., DVD player, TV, game console): Use optical digital cables to connect your devices to the OPTICAL IN 1, 2, or 3 terminals on the rear of the subwoofer.
- Analog Sources (e.g., VCR, analog TV, music player): Use RCA pin cables to connect your devices to the LINE IN 1 or LINE IN 2 terminals.
- iPod (Optional): If using the optional iPod dock (DS-A1(W)), connect it to the LINE IN 2 input and the RI terminal using a system cable.
3.4 Power Connection
- Once all audio connections are made, connect the power cord to the AC inlet on the subwoofer and then to a wall outlet.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Basic Operation
- Power On/Off: Press the POWER button on the front panel or the remote control to turn the system on or off.
- Input Selection: Use the INPUT SELECTOR buttons on the front panel or the remote control to choose the desired audio source (e.g., OPTICAL 1, LINE 2).
- Volume Adjustment: Use the VOLUME +/- buttons on the front panel or the remote control to adjust the sound level.
4.2 Virtual Surround Sound
The HTX-11 automatically processes incoming audio to create a virtual 5.1ch surround sound field. No special activation is typically required for this feature. The system's Theater-Dimensional DSP technology ensures an enveloping sound experience from your front speakers.
4.3 iPod Control (with optional dock)
If you have connected an optional iPod dock (DS-A1(W)) to the system, you can control basic iPod functions using the HTX-11 remote control. This includes playback, volume adjustment, and track selection. The iPod will also charge while docked.
4.4 Terrestrial Digital Broadcast Audio
Connect your digital TV's optical audio output to one of the HTX-11's optical inputs. This will significantly enhance the clarity of dialogue and music from TV programs. Many sports broadcasts are also transmitted in 5.1ch sound, allowing you to experience the atmosphere of live events through your system. Stereo broadcasts can also be expanded to 5.1ch playback using the "Dolby Pro Logic" mode.
5. Advanced Features
5.1 OMF Speaker Technology
The HTX-11 utilizes Onkyo Micro Fiber (OMF) diaphragms in its speakers. These hybrid diaphragms, based on natural fibers, are designed to be harder, lighter, and have less inherent sound, resulting in accurate and detailed sound reproduction across the frequency range.
5.2 AERO ACOUSTIC DRIVE
This proprietary bass reflex technology employs a unique slit-shaped duct structure. Unlike conventional round ducts that can release internal cabinet noise, AERO ACOUSTIC DRIVE prevents noise generation, ensuring that the deep bass is clean, powerful, and textured, even at low volumes.
5.3 VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry)
The HTX-11 incorporates VLSC in its front two channels. This patented circuit completely eliminates pulse noise that can degrade digital audio signals after analog conversion. By generating a new, pure audio signal with the same vector as the original, VLSC ensures that digital sound sources are reproduced with a warm and pure sound quality.
5.4 Speaker Expandability
While the HTX-11 provides an impressive virtual surround experience with its two front speakers, it is designed for future expansion. The amplifier-integrated subwoofer includes additional amplifier and speaker terminals. Onkyo offers optional center and surround speakers, matched in design and tonal quality, allowing you to upgrade to a full physical 5.1-channel system for an even more immersive experience.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning
- Wipe the exterior surfaces of the unit with a soft, dry cloth.
- For stubborn dirt, slightly dampen the cloth with water or a mild, non-abrasive cleaner. Do not use strong chemicals or abrasive materials.
- Avoid spraying liquids directly onto the unit.
6.2 Environmental Considerations
- Ensure the unit is placed in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating.
- Avoid direct sunlight, heat sources, and excessive humidity.
- Keep the unit away from strong magnetic fields.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter any issues with your HTX-11 system, please refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No sound | Power is off; incorrect input selected; volume too low; cables loose. | Ensure power is on. Select the correct input source. Increase volume. Check all audio cable connections. |
| Distorted or poor sound quality | Source device issue; incorrect cable connection; speaker placement. | Check the audio source device. Ensure cables are securely connected. Adjust speaker placement. |
| System does not turn on/off automatically with source device | This model does not support automatic power on/off via line input signals. | Manual power control is required for line input sources. Use the remote control or front panel power button. |
| Remote control not working | Batteries depleted; obstruction between remote and unit. | Replace batteries. Ensure no objects are blocking the remote sensor on the unit. |
If the problem persists after trying these solutions, please contact Onkyo customer support or your dealer.
