Safety Information

Always prioritize safety when operating power tools. Failure to follow safety guidelines can result in serious injury or property damage.

  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, and gloves.
  • Ensure the saw is unplugged before making any adjustments, changing blades, or performing maintenance.
  • Keep the work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
  • Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust.
  • Keep children and bystanders away while operating a power tool. Distractions can cause you to lose control.
  • Secure workpieces with clamps or a vise to prevent movement during cutting.
  • Avoid forcing the saw. Allow the blade to cut at its own pace for optimal performance and safety.

Setup

Unpacking and Inspection

Upon receiving your Makita 5007Mg Circular Saw, carefully unpack all components and inspect for any damage that may have occurred during shipping. Ensure all included items are present:

  • Makita 5007Mg 7-1/4-Inch Magnesium Circular Saw
  • 7-1/4" 24T Ultra-Coated C.T. Saw Blade (A-94530-A)
  • Carrying Case
  • Hex Wrench
  • Rip Fence

Blade Installation

Before installing or changing the blade, ensure the saw is unplugged from the power source.

  1. Locate the spindle lock button, typically near the blade. Press and hold it to prevent the blade from rotating.
  2. Use the provided hex wrench to loosen the arbor bolt. Turn the bolt counter-clockwise to loosen.
  3. Once the arbor bolt is removed, carefully remove the outer flange and the old blade.
  4. Clean any sawdust or debris from the arbor and flanges.
  5. Place the new 7-1/4-inch blade onto the arbor, ensuring the teeth are pointing in the correct direction (usually indicated by an arrow on the blade guard).
  6. Reinstall the outer flange and the arbor bolt. Tighten the arbor bolt clockwise while holding the spindle lock button. Do not overtighten.

Operating Instructions

Adjusting Cutting Depth

The cutting depth can be adjusted to match the thickness of your workpiece. To adjust, loosen the depth adjustment lever, raise or lower the saw base to the desired depth, and then securely tighten the lever. Ensure the blade extends slightly below the workpiece for a clean cut.

Adjusting Bevel Angle

The Makita 5007Mg allows for bevel cuts up to 56 degrees, with positive stops at 22.5 and 45 degrees for quick adjustments. To change the bevel angle, loosen the bevel adjustment lever, tilt the saw base to the desired angle, and then securely tighten the lever.

Making a Cut

  1. Ensure the workpiece is securely clamped and the cutting line is clearly marked.
  2. Position the saw with the front of the base plate resting on the workpiece, aligning the blade with your cutting line.
  3. Depress the trigger to start the saw, allowing the blade to reach full speed before engaging the material.
  4. Gently push the saw forward through the workpiece, maintaining a steady pace. Do not force the saw.
  5. Once the cut is complete, release the trigger and allow the blade to stop completely before lifting the saw from the workpiece.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your circular saw.

  • Cleaning: After each use, unplug the saw and use a brush or compressed air to remove sawdust and debris from the motor vents, blade guard, and base plate. A built-in dust blower helps keep the line of cut clear during operation.
  • Blade Inspection: Regularly inspect the blade for sharpness, damage, or missing teeth. Replace dull or damaged blades promptly to ensure safe and efficient cutting.
  • Cord Inspection: Check the power cord for any cuts, fraying, or damage. Replace damaged cords immediately.
  • Lubrication: Refer to the detailed service manual for specific lubrication points and schedules.

Troubleshooting

This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your circular saw.

  • Saw not starting: Check if the saw is securely plugged into a working outlet. Inspect the power cord for damage. Ensure the trigger lock-off button is fully disengaged.
  • Blade binding or slow cutting: The blade may be dull or dirty. Replace the blade or clean it. Ensure the cutting depth is set correctly for the material thickness. Avoid forcing the saw; let the blade do the work.
  • Excessive vibration: Check if the blade is properly installed and tightened. Ensure the blade is not bent or damaged.
  • Motor overheating: Ensure the motor vents are clear of debris. Avoid continuous heavy-duty cutting without breaks.
