1. Introduction
The Honeywell TH8321U1006 VisionPRO Universal Programmable Thermostat is designed to provide precise control over your home's heating and cooling systems, including advanced dehumidification capabilities. This manual provides detailed instructions for proper installation, configuration, and daily operation to ensure optimal performance and comfort.
2. Key Features
- Universal compatibility with various heating and cooling systems.
- Integrated dehumidification control for maintaining ideal indoor humidity levels.
- User-friendly, menu-driven programming interface.
- Armchair Programming feature allows detachment from the wall for convenient schedule setup.
- Supports up to 3 Heat/2 Cool stages for comprehensive climate management.
3. Installation
Important: Installation should ideally be performed by a qualified HVAC technician. Ensure power to the HVAC system is turned off at the circuit breaker before beginning installation to prevent electrical shock or equipment damage.
3.1 Power Requirements
This thermostat requires a 24 Volts AC power supply. Verify your system provides this voltage before installation.
3.2 Wiring
Carefully label and disconnect wires from your old thermostat. Connect them to the corresponding terminals on the new Honeywell TH8321U1006 backplate. Refer to the wiring diagram provided with your thermostat packaging for specific connections based on your HVAC system type.
3.3 Mounting
Mount the thermostat backplate securely to the wall. Once wiring is complete and the backplate is mounted, attach the thermostat faceplate to the backplate.
4. Operation
The VisionPRO thermostat features an intuitive touchscreen display for easy control. The main screen displays current indoor temperature, set temperature, system mode, fan status, and time.

Figure 1: Front view of the Honeywell TH8321U1006 VisionPRO Thermostat display. The screen shows the current indoor temperature (72), the set temperature (72), the current time (6:30 PM), and the system status (FAN AUTO, SYSTEM COOL, Following Schedule). Buttons for SCHED, HOLD, CLOCK, SCREEN, and MORE are visible at the bottom.
4.1 Screen Overview (Refer to Figure 1)
- Inside: Displays the current indoor temperature.
- Set To: Indicates the desired temperature setting. Use the Up/Down arrows to adjust.
- FAN: Controls the fan operation. Options typically include AUTO (fan runs only when heating/cooling) and ON (fan runs continuously).
- SYSTEM: Selects the operating mode. Common modes are COOL, HEAT, OFF, AUTO, and EM HEAT (Emergency Heat).
- SCHED: Accesses the programming schedule settings.
- HOLD: Temporarily overrides the programmed schedule.
- CLOCK: Adjusts the current time and date.
- SCREEN: Locks or unlocks the touchscreen.
- MORE: Provides access to additional settings and advanced features.
4.2 Adjusting Temperature
Touch the Up or Down arrows next to "Set To" on the main screen to change the desired temperature. This change will typically be temporary until the next scheduled program period, or until a HOLD is activated.
4.3 Changing System Mode
Touch the SYSTEM button to cycle through available modes: Cool, Heat, Off, Auto, Em Heat (if applicable). Select the desired mode for your environment.
4.4 Fan Control
Touch the FAN button to switch between AUTO (fan runs only when heating or cooling is active) and ON (fan runs continuously). AUTO is generally recommended for energy efficiency.
5. Programming Schedule
The VisionPRO thermostat allows for 7-day programming with up to four periods per day (Wake, Away, Home, Sleep). This feature helps optimize energy usage and comfort.
5.1 Armchair Programming
For convenience, the thermostat can be removed from its wall mount for programming. It is powered by three AAA batteries (not included) when detached. To program:
- Gently pull the thermostat faceplate off the wall mount.
- Insert three fresh AAA alkaline batteries into the battery compartment.
- Touch the SCHED button on the touchscreen.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to set times and temperatures for each program period (Wake, Away, Home, Sleep) for each day of the week. You can program individual days or group multiple days together.
- Once programming is complete, reattach the thermostat faceplate to the wall mount.
5.2 Temporary Hold
To temporarily override the schedule, adjust the temperature using the Up/Down arrows. The thermostat will maintain this temperature until the next scheduled program period begins. To cancel the temporary hold, touch the RUN SCHEDULE button (may appear after a temporary adjustment).
5.3 Permanent Hold
To maintain a temperature indefinitely, touch the HOLD button, then adjust the temperature. The thermostat will hold this temperature until you press RUN SCHEDULE to resume the program.
6. Dehumidification Control
This thermostat features advanced dehumidification control to help manage indoor humidity levels. When the indoor humidity exceeds your set point, the thermostat can activate your cooling system to reduce humidity, even if the temperature set point has not been reached. This helps prevent mold growth and improves comfort.
Access dehumidification settings through the MORE button or specific menu options. You can set a desired humidity level, and the thermostat will work to maintain it.
7. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the thermostat screen and exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Battery Replacement: If using the Armchair Programming feature, ensure AAA batteries are replaced annually or when the low battery indicator appears.
- Air Filter Replacement: The thermostat may have a filter change reminder. Follow your HVAC system manufacturer's recommendations for air filter replacement.
8. Troubleshooting
- No Display: Check if the thermostat is properly seated on its backplate. Ensure the HVAC system's power is on at the circuit breaker. If using batteries for Armchair Programming, check or replace them.
- Heating/Cooling Not Working: Verify the system mode (HEAT/COOL) is correctly selected. Check the set temperature. Ensure the fan is set to AUTO or ON. Check circuit breakers for your HVAC system.
- Incorrect Temperature Readings: Ensure the thermostat is not exposed to direct sunlight, drafts, or heat sources that could affect its sensor.
- Schedule Not Following: Ensure the thermostat is not in a permanent HOLD mode. Press RUN SCHEDULE if available.
- Touchscreen Unresponsive: Try pressing the SCREEN button to unlock it. If unresponsive, gently remove the thermostat from the wall mount, wait 30 seconds, and reattach it to reset.
