Setup

Mounting the Riflescope

Proper mounting is crucial for accuracy and consistent performance. Ensure the riflescope is securely attached to your rifle using appropriate mounting rings and bases (not included). Follow the manufacturer's instructions for your specific mounting hardware.

  1. Attach the mounting bases to your rifle's receiver according to the rifle manufacturer's specifications.
  2. Place the lower halves of the mounting rings onto the bases.
  3. Carefully place the riflescope into the lower rings. Ensure the reticle is level and the eyepiece is positioned for comfortable eye relief.
  4. Place the upper halves of the mounting rings over the riflescope and tighten the screws evenly, but do not overtighten.
  5. Adjust the riflescope's position for optimal eye relief and reticle alignment. Once satisfied, fully tighten all mounting screws. Refer to your mount manufacturer's torque specifications.

Initial Zeroing

After mounting, the riflescope must be zeroed to your rifle. This process typically involves bore-sighting followed by live-fire adjustments.

  • Bore-Sighting: Use a bore-sighting device or visually align the bore with a target at a short distance (e.g., 25 yards). Adjust the riflescope's windage and elevation turrets until the reticle aligns with the bore-sighted point of impact.
  • Live-Fire Adjustment: At a safe shooting range, fire a group of shots at your desired zeroing distance (e.g., 100 yards). Use the windage and elevation adjustments to move the point of impact to the desired location on the target. The 1/4-MOA SureGrip audible-click adjustments provide precise control.

Operating the Riflescope

Magnification Adjustment

The Simmons 8-Point 3-9x40mm Riflescope features variable magnification from 3x to 9x. To adjust the magnification, rotate the power ring located near the eyepiece. Turn clockwise for higher magnification and counter-clockwise for lower magnification.

Focus Adjustment (QTA Eyepiece)

The QTA (Quick Target Acquisition) eyepiece allows for fast and easy target acquisition. To adjust the focus for your eye, look through the riflescope at a plain, bright background (like the sky or a blank wall). Rotate the eyepiece until the reticle appears sharp and clear. Avoid looking at a target while adjusting, as your eye may compensate for blurriness.

Windage and Elevation Adjustment (TrueZero System)

The riflescope is equipped with the TrueZero fingertip windage and elevation adjustment system. This system is designed to stay locked tight to zero, even under strenuous conditions. The adjustments are 1/4-MOA per click, meaning each click moves the point of impact approximately 1/4 inch at 100 yards.

  • Elevation Turret: Located on top of the riflescope. Turning it clockwise typically moves the point of impact down, and counter-clockwise moves it up.
  • Windage Turret: Located on the right side of the riflescope. Turning it clockwise typically moves the point of impact right, and counter-clockwise moves it left.

After making adjustments, ensure the turret caps are securely replaced to protect the mechanisms.

Maintenance

Proper care and maintenance will ensure your Simmons riflescope provides years of reliable service. The riflescope is designed to be waterproof, fogproof, and recoilproof.

  • Cleaning Lenses: Use a soft, clean lens cloth or a lens brush to remove dust and loose debris. For smudges or fingerprints, use a specialized lens cleaning solution and a clean microfiber cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Cleaning Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the riflescope with a soft, damp cloth to remove dirt or grime. Dry thoroughly.
  • Storage: Store the riflescope in a cool, dry place, preferably in a protective case, when not in use. Avoid extreme temperatures and high humidity.
  • Inspection: Periodically check mounting screws for tightness.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your riflescope, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • Blurred Image/Reticle:
    • Ensure the QTA eyepiece is correctly focused for your eye (see "Focus Adjustment").
    • Check for dirt or smudges on the lenses and clean them as described in the "Maintenance" section.
  • Inconsistent Point of Impact:
    • Verify that the riflescope is securely mounted and all mounting screws are tightened to the manufacturer's specifications.
    • Check for loose components on the rifle itself (e.g., barrel, stock).
    • Ensure ammunition consistency.
    • Confirm proper shooting technique.
  • Difficulty Adjusting Windage/Elevation:
    • Ensure turret caps are removed before attempting adjustments.
    • If turrets feel stiff, do not force them. Contact customer support.
