Part 1: Assembling the Single Barrel Stove Kit (BSK1000 + DR55 Drum)
- Unpack Contents: Stand the barrel up with the plugs facing up. The DR55 drum will arrive unpainted. You may paint the drum using a paint rated for higher temperatures.
- Position Door on Barrel: Position the door on the barrel to cover the smaller plug.
- Mark Holes and Trace for Door Opening: Mark the holes for the door bolts and trace the area where the door opening is to be cut out.
- Cut Tracing: Cut the traced opening for the door using your jigsaw or reciprocating saw. This step is made easier by drilling one or more pilot holes in the barrel before cutting.
- Drill Holes for Door: Drill the holes for the door bolts and then fit the door frame to the barrel using the bolts provided with your kit.
- Mark Holes for Legs: Place each leg on the bottom of the barrel and mark holes for the bolts that will attach them. Center the legs so that the barrel is stabilized.
- Drill Holes: Drill the holes for the bolts that will attach each leg.
- Secure Legs with Bolts & Nuts: Secure each leg using the bolts and nuts provided.
- Remove Flue Collar Damper: Remove the flue collar damper. Align the flue collar and mark the holes for the bolts and flue collar opening.
- Drill Holes to Hold Flue Collar in Place, Then Cut: Drill the holes for the bolts that will hold the flue collar in place. Cut the opening for the flue collar.
- Reinstall Damper in Flue Collar: If you are installing the single barrel kit, reinstall the damper in the flue collar.
- Attach Flue Collar: Attach the flue collar using the bolts provided.
Part 2: Convert Single Barrel to Double Barrel (Using BKAD500 Kit)
The following steps illustrate how to use the BKAD500 adapter kit to convert the single barrel camp stove into a double barrel camp stove.
- Remove Flue Collar / Damper: Remove the flue collar with the damper and attach the female flue collar without the damper in its place.
- Place Separators and Barrels into Place: Place the separators on the top of the first barrel and lift the second barrel into place. Align them accordingly.
- Mark Flue Location on Top and Bottom of Barrels: Mark the flue location on the top and bottom of the second barrel.
- Cut Top Flue Openings: Lift the top barrel off and set it aside. Cut the top and bottom flue openings and drill the holes for the flue collar bolts.
- Install Flue Collars: Install the flue collars on the second barrel. Be sure to install the flue collar with the damper on top of the top barrel.
- Place and Align: Place the top barrel back onto the separators and align the opening between the top and bottom flue collars. You will need to insert a 6-inch stove pipe adapter to connect the two flue collars.
- Mark Holes to Mount Separators: Mark the holes to mount the separators.
- Drill to Attach Separators: Remove the top barrel and drill the holes to attach the separators in each barrel.
- Mount Separators Then Place: Mount the separators to the top of the bottom barrel. Then, lift the top barrel into place, realign the flue collars, and attach the separators to the underside of the top barrel.

Operation
The US Stove BKAD500 is an adapter kit designed to enhance the heat output of an existing barrel camp stove. For detailed operating instructions, including fuel loading, ignition, and heat regulation, please refer to the owner's manual of your primary BSK1000 barrel camp stove kit.
Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and safe operation of your BKAD500 adapter kit, follow these general maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: The cast iron components can be cleaned by hand. Ensure all parts are cool before handling.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect all bolts, nuts, and connections to ensure they remain tight and secure.
- Rust Prevention: As cast iron can rust, consider applying a high-temperature stove paint or seasoning the components if they are exposed to moisture.
- For comprehensive maintenance procedures, consult the owner's manual of your BSK1000 barrel camp stove.
Troubleshooting
This adapter kit primarily facilitates the stacking of a second barrel. Most operational issues related to heat output, smoke, or combustion will stem from the primary barrel stove unit (BSK1000) or the stove pipe installation.
- If you experience issues with heat output or smoke, refer to the troubleshooting section of your BSK1000 barrel camp stove manual.
- Ensure all connections for the adapter kit are securely fastened as per the assembly instructions.
- Verify that the 6-inch stove pipe adapter connecting the two flue collars is properly seated and sealed.
