4. Product Overview

4.1 Front Panel Controls and Features

  1. EJECT Buttons: Used to open and close the CD tray for each respective deck.
  2. TIME Button: Toggles the time display mode on the screen (e.g., elapsed time, remaining time).
  3. SGL (Single) Button: Activates single-track play mode, stopping after the current track.
  4. PITCH JOG Switch: Selects whether the jog wheel controls pitch bend or search functions.
  5. Jog Wheel: A large rotary control used for precise track searching, cue point adjustment, and pitch bending.
  6. RWD/FWD Indicators: Lights up to indicate the direction of jog wheel rotation for search or pitch bend.

  8. TRACK Buttons (◀◀, ▶▶, +10): Used for navigating between tracks. ◀◀ for previous track, ▶▶ for next track, and +10 to jump forward by 10 tracks.

  11. PITCH BEND Buttons (+, -): Momentarily adjusts the playback speed up or down for beat matching.

4.2 Rear Panel Connections

  • Power Input: For connecting the AC power cable.
  • Control Cable Input/Output: For connecting the control unit to the drive unit.
  • RCA Audio Outputs (L/R): For connecting the CD player to a mixer or amplifier. Each deck will have its own set of outputs.

5. Setup

5.1 Rack Mounting

The CDN22 MK5 is designed for standard 19-inch rack mounting. Secure both the control unit and the drive unit into an available rack space using appropriate rack screws. Ensure sufficient space for ventilation around the units.

5.2 Audio Connections

  1. Connect the RCA audio outputs from each deck of the CDN22 MK5 drive unit to available line inputs on your mixer or amplifier. Ensure left and right channels are correctly matched.
  2. Connect the control cable from the control unit to the drive unit.

5.3 Power Connection

After all audio and control connections are made, connect the supplied AC power cable to the power input on the rear of the drive unit, then plug the other end into a suitable AC power outlet.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Loading a CD

  1. Press the EJECT button for the desired deck. The disc tray will open.
  2. Place a standard audio CD (CD-R compatible) onto the tray with the label side facing up.
  3. Press the EJECT button again to close the tray. The unit will read the disc.

6.2 Basic Playback

  1. After loading a CD, the display will show the total number of tracks and total time.
  2. Press the PLAY/PAUSE button (▶▶) to start playback. The track number and elapsed time will be displayed.
  3. Press PLAY/PAUSE again to pause playback.
  4. Use the TRACK buttons (◀◀, ▶▶) to select the previous or next track.

6.3 Using Jog Wheels (Search and Pitch Bend)

  • Search Mode: Set the PITCH JOG switch to 'JOG'. Rotate the jog wheel to quickly scan through the track.
  • Pitch Bend Mode: Set the PITCH JOG switch to 'PITCH'. Rotate the jog wheel to momentarily increase or decrease the playback speed. This is useful for beat matching.

6.4 Cue Function

  1. During playback or while paused, navigate to the desired point in a track using the jog wheel.
  2. Press the CUE button to set this point as the cue point. The unit will automatically pause at this point.
  3. During playback, pressing the CUE button will instantly return the track to the set cue point.

6.5 Programming Tracks

  1. Press the PROG button. The display will indicate program mode.
  2. Use the TRACK buttons to select the first track you wish to add to the program.
  3. Press PROG again to add the selected track.
  4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 to add more tracks to your program.
  5. Once your program is complete, press PLAY/PAUSE to begin programmed playback.

6.6 Pitch Control

  1. Press the PITCH button to activate the pitch control. The display will show the pitch percentage.
  2. Move the Pitch Slider up or down to adjust the playback speed. Moving it up increases speed, moving it down decreases speed.
  3. Use the PITCH BEND buttons (+/-) for fine, momentary adjustments to the pitch.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

Regularly clean the exterior of the unit with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents, as they may damage the finish.

7.2 Disc Care

Handle CDs by their edges. Avoid touching the playing surface. Store discs in their cases when not in use to prevent scratches and dust accumulation. Do not use damaged or excessively dirty discs, as they can affect playback quality and potentially damage the unit.
