4. Setup

4.1 Unpacking and Placement

Carefully unpack the mixer and inspect it for any signs of damage. The RX1202FX is designed for standard 19-inch rack mounting. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit to prevent overheating.

4.2 Power Connection

Connect the supplied AC power cable to the POWER INPUT on the rear panel and then to a suitable power outlet. Ensure the mixer's power switch is in the OFF position before connecting or disconnecting power.

4.3 Initial Audio Connections

  1. Microphones: Connect microphones to the XLR inputs of channels 1-8.
  2. Line Sources: Connect line-level instruments or playback devices to the 1/4" jacks of channels 1-12. For stereo sources, use paired channels (e.g., 9/10, 11/12).
  3. Main Outputs: Connect the MAIN OUT (L/R) XLR connectors to your power amplifier or active speakers.
  4. Monitor Outputs: Connect the MON SEND to your monitor amplifier or active monitor speakers.
  5. Headphones: Plug your headphones into the PHONES jack on the front panel.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Powering On

After all connections are made, ensure all channel faders and the main mix faders are at their lowest setting. Power on any connected audio sources, then the RX1202FX, and finally your power amplifiers or active speakers.

5.2 Adjusting Input Channels

  1. Gain Staging: Slowly increase the GAIN control for an active input channel while speaking into the microphone or playing the instrument. Observe the CLIP LED; it should only flash occasionally on the loudest peaks. If it stays lit, reduce the GAIN.
  2. Equalization (EQ): Use the HIGH and LOW EQ controls to shape the tone of each channel. Turn clockwise to boost frequencies, counter-clockwise to cut.
  3. Pan: Adjust the PAN control to position the sound source in the stereo image.
  4. Monitor Send: Use the MON control to send a portion of the channel signal to the monitor mix.
  5. FX Send: Use the FX control to send a portion of the channel signal to the internal effects processor.
  6. Channel Level: Raise the channel fader to bring the signal into the main mix.

5.3 Using the Effects Processor

The RX1202FX features a 24-bit multi-FX processor. Use the PROGRAM knob to select from 100 presets (e.g., Hall, Room, Plate, Delay, Chorus, Flanger). Adjust the FX TO MAIN control to blend the effects signal into the main mix.

5.4 Main Mix and Monitoring

Adjust the MAIN MIX faders to control the overall output volume. Use the PHONES/CONTROL ROOM level control to set the volume for your headphones or control room monitors.

5.5 CD/Tape Input/Output

Connect external playback devices to the CD/TAPE IN RCA jacks. Use the CD/TAPE TO MIX button to route this signal to the main mix, or CD/TAPE TO CTRL to route it to the control room/phones output. The CD/TAPE OUT RCA jacks can be used to send the main mix to a recording device.
