Operating the Camera

Basic Photography

To take a picture, power on the camera, frame your shot using the LCD, and press the shutter button halfway to focus, then fully to capture the image.

Zoom Function

The camera features a 3x optical zoom and a 4x digital zoom, providing a combined 12x zoom capability. Use the zoom lever (usually around the shutter button) to adjust the focal length.

MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer)

The integrated MEGA O.I.S. technology helps reduce blur caused by camera shake, especially in low light or when using zoom. This feature operates automatically to ensure sharper images.

Shooting Modes

The DMC-LS2 offers various shooting modes, including:

  • Normal Picture Mode: For standard photography.
  • Movie Mode: Records video at 320 x 240 resolution at 30 or 10 frames per second. Note that video recordings do not include audio.
  • Consecutive Shooting: Captures images at approximately 3 frames per second at full resolution. The Unlimited Consecutive Shooting function allows continuous capture until the memory card is full.
  • Scene Modes: Pre-set modes for specific conditions (e.g., Sports mode for fast-moving subjects).

White Balance Settings

Adjust white balance to ensure accurate color reproduction under different lighting conditions. Available settings include: Auto, Daylight, Cloudy, Halogen, and White Set (manual white balance).

Image Playback

Review your captured images and videos on the 2-inch LCD screen. The camera supports multi-split screen playback, allowing you to view 9, 16, or 25 images simultaneously to quickly locate specific photos.

Advanced Features

High-Angle Mode

This mode enhances the visibility of the LCD display when viewing from a low angle, such as when holding the camera above your head to shoot over a crowd.

Connecting to a Computer and Printing

USB Connection

Use the provided USB cable to connect the camera to your computer for transferring images and videos. The camera will appear as a removable storage device.

PictBridge Direct Printing

The DMC-LS2 supports the PictBridge standard, allowing direct printing to compatible digital printers without the need for a computer. You can select print size, layout, and date settings directly from the camera.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the camera body. For the lens, use a specialized lens cleaning cloth and solution. Avoid abrasive materials.
  • Storage: Store the camera in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Remove batteries if the camera will not be used for an extended period.
  • Battery Care: Ensure batteries are fully charged before use. Dispose of depleted batteries according to local regulations.
