Behringer POWERPLAY HA8000
8-Channel High-Power Headphones Mixing and Distribution Amplifier
1. Introduction
The Behringer POWERPLAY HA8000 is a professional multi-purpose headphones amplifier system designed for stage and studio applications. It provides eight totally independent stereo high-power amplifier sections within a single rack space, ensuring high sonic quality even at maximum volume.
This unit features two stereo Main inputs for two independent mixes, accessible from all eight output channels. Additionally, eight independent Direct inputs allow for up to eight individual stereo mixes. Each channel includes output level control, an accurate 8-digit LED output meter, and a mono/stereo switch for enhanced flexibility. Both front and rear TRS phones connectors are available per channel, along with a Direct input connector for easy connection of any sound source. Parallel Main outputs enable the cascading of multiple HA8000 units for expanded listening capacity. The amplifier incorporates a toroidal transformer for noiseless operation and low magnetic interference, built with high-quality components for long-term durability.

3. Setup
3.1 Unpacking and Initial Inspection
Carefully unpack your HA8000 and inspect it for any signs of damage that may have occurred during transit. If damage is found, do not operate the unit and contact your dealer immediately.
3.2 Rack Mounting
The HA8000 is designed for standard 19-inch rack mounting. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit to prevent overheating. Do not block the ventilation openings.
3.3 Power Connection
Connect the supplied power cord to the AC inlet on the rear panel of the HA8000 and then to a suitable power outlet. Ensure the power switch on the front panel is in the "OFF" position before connecting to power.
3.4 Audio Connections (Rear Panel)
The rear panel of the HA8000 provides comprehensive connectivity for various studio and stage setups.
- Main Inputs (XLR and 1/4" TRS): Connect your main stereo audio sources (e.g., mixing console outputs) to MAIN IN 1 and MAIN IN 2. These inputs accept both balanced XLR and 1/4" TRS connectors.
- Main Outputs (XLR and 1/4" TRS): Use these outputs to cascade multiple HA8000 units. Connect the MAIN OUT of one unit to the MAIN IN of another.
- Direct Inputs (1/4" TRS per channel): For each of the eight headphone channels, a dedicated DIRECT IN allows you to feed an individual stereo mix directly to that specific headphone output. This is ideal for musicians who require a personalized monitor mix.
- Headphone Outputs (1/4" TRS per channel): In addition to the front panel outputs, each channel has a 1/4" TRS headphone output on the rear panel.
4. Operation
4.1 Powering On
After all connections are made, press the POWER switch on the front panel to turn on the unit. The power indicator LED will illuminate.
4.2 Main Section Controls
- MAIN IN 1 / MAIN IN 2 MASTER LEVEL: These rotary controls adjust the overall input level for the respective main stereo inputs. Monitor the INPUT LEVEL meters to ensure optimal signal levels without clipping.
- INPUT LEVEL Meters: These 5-segment LED meters display the input level for MAIN IN 1 and MAIN IN 2. Aim for levels that illuminate the green LEDs, occasionally touching the yellow, but avoid constant red (CLIP) indication to prevent distortion.
4.3 Individual Channel Controls (Channels 1-8)
Each of the eight independent headphone amplifier sections features the following controls:
- MAIN IN 1 / MAIN IN 2 Switch: This switch allows you to select which of the two main stereo mixes (MAIN IN 1 or MAIN IN 2) is routed to the individual headphone channel.
- MONO/STEREO Switch: Toggles the output of the channel between stereo and mono. In mono mode, the left and right signals are summed.
- DIRECT IN Button: When pressed, this button activates the dedicated DIRECT IN for that channel, overriding the selected MAIN IN signal. This allows a unique, personalized mix to be fed directly to the headphones connected to this channel.
- OUTPUT LEVEL: This rotary control adjusts the volume for the connected headphones.
- OUTPUT LEVEL Meters: These 8-digit LED meters display the output level for each individual headphone channel. Adjust the OUTPUT LEVEL knob to achieve a comfortable listening volume while monitoring these meters to avoid clipping.
- PHONES OUT (Front Panel): Connect your headphones to this 1/4" TRS jack.
4.4 Connecting Headphones
Connect your headphones to either the front panel PHONES OUT jack or the rear panel 1/4" TRS headphone output for the desired channel. Ensure the headphones have a 1/4" TRS connector.
Important Note: Prolonged listening at high volume levels can cause hearing damage. Always start with the volume low and gradually increase it to a comfortable level.
