5. Maintenance
5.1. Cleaning the Camera
- Camera Body: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the camera body. For stubborn dirt, a slightly dampened cloth can be used, followed by a dry cloth.
- Lens: Use a lens brush or blower to remove dust. For smudges, use a lens cleaning solution and a microfiber cloth. Avoid touching the lens surface with your fingers.
- Image Sensor: Dust on the image sensor can appear as spots in your photos. If you notice sensor dust, it is recommended to have the sensor professionally cleaned by a Nikon service center.
- LCD Monitor: Gently wipe with a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid pressing hard on the screen.
5.2. Battery Care
- Always use the genuine Nikon EN-EL3e battery and charger.
- Store batteries in a cool, dry place when not in use.
- If the camera will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery.
- The optional MB-D200 battery pack can extend shooting capability using AA-size batteries or two EN-EL3e batteries.
5.3. Storage
When storing the camera, ensure it is turned off and the lens cap is attached. Store the camera in a dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity. The D200's robust construction provides good protection, but proper storage extends its lifespan.
6. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your Nikon D200.
6.1. Camera Does Not Turn On
- Ensure the battery is fully charged and correctly inserted.
- Check if the battery contacts are clean.
- Try using a different, fully charged battery if available.
6.2. Images Are Blurry or Out of Focus
- Verify that the lens is securely attached and the focus mode switch on the lens (if applicable) is set to "A" (Autofocus).
- Ensure the camera's focus mode is set appropriately for your subject (e.g., AF-S for still subjects, AF-C for moving subjects).
- Check if the selected autofocus area covers your intended subject.
- In low light, the camera may struggle to focus. Use the AF-assist illuminator if available, or focus manually.
6.3. Spots Appear in Photos
- This is often caused by dust on the image sensor. Refer to the "Cleaning the Camera" section for advice. Professional sensor cleaning is recommended for persistent spots.
- Ensure your lens is clean and free of smudges or dust.
6.4. Battery Drains Quickly
- Frequent use of the LCD monitor, continuous shooting, or flash can deplete the battery faster.
- Ensure the battery is fully charged before use.
- Old or worn-out batteries may lose their capacity. Consider replacing the battery if it no longer holds a charge well.
