3. Setup and Preparation
3.1 Surface Preparation
Proper surface preparation is critical for optimal adhesion and finish quality.
- Clean: Thoroughly clean the surface to be painted, removing all dirt, grease, oil, wax, rust, and loose paint. Use a suitable degreaser or wax and grease remover.
- Sand: For best adhesion, lightly sand smooth or glossy surfaces with fine-grit sandpaper (e.g., 320-400 grit) to create a profile for the paint to adhere to.
- Rinse & Dry: Rinse the surface completely with water and allow it to dry thoroughly. Ensure no moisture remains.
- Mask: Mask off any areas not intended for painting using painter's tape and masking paper or plastic.
3.2 Product Preparation
Before application, prepare the paint can as follows:
- Shake the can vigorously for at least one minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. Continue to shake occasionally during application.
- Test spray on an inconspicuous area or scrap material to check spray pattern and color.
4. Operating and Application
Apply VHT SP650 All-Weather Epoxy Paint using the following steps:
- Hold the can approximately 10-12 inches (25-30 cm) from the surface.
- Apply paint in light, even coats using a steady, sweeping motion. Avoid applying heavy coats to prevent runs and drips.
- Allow 10-15 minutes between coats for proper flash-off.
- Apply 2-3 light coats for optimal coverage and durability.
- The paint is dry to the touch in 30 minutes and dries thoroughly overnight. No curing is required for this product.
- After use, invert the can and spray until only clear gas comes out to clear the nozzle and prevent clogging.

5. Maintenance and Care
Once applied and fully dried, the VHT SP650 All-Weather Epoxy Paint provides a durable finish. To maintain its appearance and protective qualities:
- Clean painted surfaces with mild soap and water. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that could damage the finish.
- Regularly inspect painted surfaces for any signs of damage or wear, especially in high-stress areas or those exposed to harsh elements.
- Touch up small chips or scratches promptly to prevent rust or further deterioration of the coating.
6. Troubleshooting
Here are some common issues and their potential solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Runs or Sags | Too much paint applied in one coat; can held too close to surface. | Apply lighter, more even coats. Increase distance from surface (10-12 inches). |
| Poor Adhesion / Peeling | Improper surface preparation (grease, dirt, rust); surface too smooth. | Ensure surface is thoroughly cleaned and lightly sanded before painting. |
| Uneven Spray Pattern | Can not shaken enough; clogged nozzle; low temperature. | Shake can vigorously. Clear nozzle by inverting and spraying. Ensure ambient temperature is suitable for painting. |
| Slow Drying Time | High humidity; low temperature; too thick coats. | Ensure good ventilation. Apply in recommended temperature range. Apply thinner coats. |
