3. Preparation

3.1 Surface Preparation

  • Ensure the substrate is clean, dry, structurally sound, and free from dust, grease, oil, paint, curing compounds, and other foreign matter.
  • For concrete surfaces, ensure they are fully cured and free of hydrostatic pressure.
  • Repair any cracks or imperfections in the substrate prior to application.

3.2 Environmental Conditions

  • Apply when ambient and surface temperatures are between 50°F (10°C) and 90°F (32°C).
  • Avoid application in direct sunlight or when rain is imminent.

3.3 Tools Required

  • Notched trowel (recommended notch size may vary based on carpet backing; consult carpet manufacturer's recommendations).
  • Utility knife or carpet shears.
  • Measuring tape.
  • Roller (for ensuring full contact).
  • Cleaning rags and appropriate solvent for cleanup (e.g., mineral spirits).

4. Application

4.1 Adhesive Application

  1. Stir the adhesive thoroughly before use.
  2. Spread the adhesive evenly onto the prepared substrate using a notched trowel. Apply only enough adhesive that can be covered with carpet within the open time (typically 15-20 minutes, depending on temperature and humidity).
  3. Avoid excessive adhesive application, which can lead to bleed-through or extended drying times.

4.2 Carpet Installation

  1. Carefully lay the carpet or artificial turf into the wet adhesive, ensuring proper alignment.
  2. Press the carpet firmly into the adhesive, working from the center outwards to remove any trapped air and ensure full contact.
  3. Use a roller to further ensure complete contact between the carpet backing and the adhesive.
  4. Trim excess carpet along edges using a utility knife or shears.

4.3 Drying and Curing

  • Allow the adhesive to dry completely before subjecting the carpet to heavy traffic or moisture.
  • Drying time typically ranges from 24 to 48 hours, depending on temperature, humidity, and adhesive thickness. Full cure may take longer.
  • Protect the newly installed carpet from rain or excessive moisture during the initial drying period.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning Tools

Clean tools and excess wet adhesive immediately with mineral spirits or an appropriate solvent. Cured adhesive will be difficult to remove and may require mechanical scraping.

5.2 Storage of Unused Product

Store unused adhesive in its original, tightly sealed container in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and freezing temperatures. Ensure the lid is securely fastened to prevent drying out.

6. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Poor Adhesion Improper surface preparation (dust, grease), insufficient adhesive, adhesive dried too quickly (long open time), incorrect temperature. Ensure surface is clean and dry. Apply adequate adhesive. Work in smaller sections to avoid adhesive drying. Apply within recommended temperature range.
Adhesive Bleed-Through Too much adhesive applied, carpet backing too thin or porous. Use the correct notched trowel size. Ensure even application. Consult carpet manufacturer for compatibility.
Slow Drying Time High humidity, low temperature, excessive adhesive, poor ventilation. Ensure adequate ventilation. Maintain recommended temperature. Avoid over-applying adhesive. Allow more time for drying in humid or cool conditions.
