MABIS Facial Steamer and Steam Inhaler (Model 40-741-000) Instruction Manual

Your guide to safe and effective use of your MABIS Personal Steam Inhaler.

1. Introduction

The MABIS Facial Steamer and Steam Inhaler is designed to provide natural and effective relief for respiratory symptoms and can also be used for facial steaming. It features adjustable steam controls and an aromatherapy diffuser option.

This device is beneficial for temporarily relieving discomfort associated with colds, sore throats, coughs, flu, laryngitis, bronchitis, sinusitis, and asthma. The steam helps to increase moisture, which can alleviate throat inflammation and irritation, as well as open and cleanse facial pores.

2. Safety Information

WARNING: Failure to follow these safety instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury.

  • Always place the steamer on a firm, flat, level surface, at least 5 inches away from walls and heat sources such as stoves, radiators, or heaters.
  • When moving or lifting the steamer, ensure a secure grip under the base of the unit.
  • Before using, extend the power cord and inspect for any signs of damage. Do not use the product if the cord has been damaged.
  • Do not overfill the internal water heater tank. Fill only to the lowest line in the tank.
  • Do not use anything except water in the heater tank.
  • Ensure the lid on the internal water heater tank is firmly closed.
  • Make sure the cover is firmly locked in place and the mask is seated firmly on the extension tube.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

3. Components Overview

The MABIS Facial Steamer and Steam Inhaler includes the following components:

4. Setup

  1. Wash Components: Before first use, wash the aromatherapy/drain tank, cover, extension tube, and mask in warm water with a mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly and allow to dry completely. Never submerge the main unit in water.
  2. Position the Inhaler: Place the inhaler on a flat, stable surface, out of reach of children. Ensure the mask is facing towards you.
  3. Remove the Lid: Gently pull straight up on the cover of the inhaler to remove the lid.
  4. Fill Water Heater Tank: Remove the cap to the water heater tank by turning it counter-clockwise. Using the included 25 mL measuring cup, fill the internal water heater tank with approximately 25 mL of tap water. DO NOT OVERFILL. Do not use anything except water in the heater tank.
  5. Replace Lid and Cap: Replace the lid on the internal water heater tank and reattach the cap.
  6. Prepare Aromatherapy Tank (Optional): If using aromatherapy, fill the 60 mL aromatherapy tank with saline or aromatherapy water. Return the aromatherapy/drain tank to the unit, making sure the suction tube makes contact with the bottom of the tank.
  7. Attach Extension Tube and Mask: Position the extension tube to a comfortable position. Attach the soft, flexible non-latex face mask.

5. Operating Instructions

  1. Plug In: Plug the power cord into a working outlet.
  2. Turn On: Turn the POWER switch to the 'ON' position by gently rotating the wheel on the switch. The indicator light will illuminate.
  3. Adjust Steam Control: Slide the variable steam control to your desired setting. Slide up for larger-sized particles of steam (ideal for inhaling through the mouth). Slide down for smaller-sized particles of steam (ideal for inhaling through the nose).
  4. Begin Treatment: The steamer will begin to output steam in approximately 60 seconds. Once the steam becomes weak (approximately 5-15 minutes), turn the POWER switch to the 'OFF' position and unplug the unit from the outlet.
  5. Inhale Steam: Place the soft, flexible mask over your face, ensuring a comfortable fit, and inhale the steam for 5-10 minutes.

6. Aromatherapy Feature

The MABIS Facial Steamer includes an aromatherapy option, allowing you to infuse the steam with essential oils for an enhanced experience. Oils are sold separately.

  1. Prepare Aromatherapy Tank: Fill the 60 mL aromatherapy tank with saline or aromatherapy water.
  2. Add Essential Oils: Add a few drops of your preferred essential oil to the aromatherapy water in the tank.
  3. Insert Tank: Return the aromatherapy/drain tank to the unit, ensuring the suction tube makes contact with the bottom of the tank.
  4. Operate: Follow the operating instructions in Section 5 to begin steam inhalation with aromatherapy.

7. Maintenance and Cleaning

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and hygienic operation of your MABIS Facial Steamer.

  1. After Every Use:
    • Unplug the unit from the power source.
    • Allow the unit to completely cool (approximately 10 minutes).
    • Carefully remove the aromatherapy/drain tank and pour out any remaining water.
    • Follow the cleaning procedures provided in the Steam Inhaler Guidebook for thorough cleaning of all removable parts.
  2. Storage: Store the clean and dry Steam Inhaler in a cool, dry place.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your MABIS Facial Steamer, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

ProblemPossible Cause & Solution
Power Lamp/Light is NOT Illuminated
  • Check that the power cord is connected to a working outlet.
  • Check that the power switch is in the ON position. An orange light should be visible from the front of the unit.
  • Make sure the internal water heater tank is filled to the proper level.
Little or NO Steam Output
  • Check that the power is connected and the switch is in the ON position.
  • Check the water level in the internal water heater tank. Fill ONLY to the lowest line in the tank. DO NOT OVERFILL.
  • Check that there is saline or aromatherapy water in the aromatherapy tank (if applicable) and the suction tube is in proper position.
  • Clean the steam nozzle.
Water is Leaking
  • Check that the water in the aromatherapy tank is NOT overfilled and is at the proper level.
  • Make sure the unit is on a flat surface and is NOT tilted.
Steam is Leaking
  • Ensure the lid on the internal water heater tank is firmly closed.
  • Make sure that the cover is firmly locked in place and the mask is seated firmly on the extension tube.
