4.2. Installation Steps

Note: Professional installation is recommended if you are unfamiliar with door hardware installation. Ensure the door and frame are structurally sound before installation.

  1. Prepare the Door: Determine the desired height for the nightlatch. Mark the center line for the lock body and cylinder on the door edge and face. Ensure the 40mm backset is correctly measured from the door edge to the center of the cylinder hole.
  2. Drill Cylinder Hole: Drill a hole through the door face for the cylinder, typically 32mm or 38mm, depending on the cylinder diameter.
  3. Drill Lock Body Holes: Position the lock body template (if provided, or measure carefully) and drill pilot holes for the mounting screws on the door face.
  4. Install Cylinder: Insert the cylinder through the drilled hole from the outside of the door. Secure it with the retaining screws from the inside, ensuring it is flush and tight.
  5. Mount Lock Body: Align the nightlatch body with the cylinder mechanism and the drilled pilot holes. Secure the lock body to the door face using the provided screws. Ensure the deadlatch bolt operates smoothly.
  6. Prepare the Door Frame: Close the door and mark the position where the deadlatch bolt meets the door frame.
  7. Install Strike Plate: Position the strike plate on the door frame according to your mark. Trace its outline and chisel out a recess if necessary for a flush fit. Drill pilot holes and secure the strike plate with screws.
  8. Test Operation: With the door open, test the internal knob and external key operation. Close the door and test both operations again, ensuring the deadlatch engages correctly with the strike plate and the deadlocking function works.
