1. Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient use of your APC Basic Rack Power Distribution Unit (PDU), model AP7532. This PDU is designed to distribute power outlets to rack-mount equipment, offering a reliable power solution for your data center or server room.
Key features of this PDU include:
- 100V-120V Input, Basic 30A rackmount Power Distribution Unit
- Input: NEMA L5-30P (2.9 kW)
- Output Receptacles: Twenty-Four (24) 5-15 Outlets
- 0U Vertical Mounting PDU
- Cord Length: 9.8 feet
2. Setup and Installation
The APC AP7532 PDU is designed for vertical mounting within a rack environment, specifically compatible with NetShelter VX rear channels for tool-less installation.
2.1 Unpacking
Carefully remove the PDU from its packaging. Inspect for any signs of damage during transit. Retain packaging for future transport or storage.
2.2 Mounting the PDU
This 0U PDU is designed for vertical installation. For NetShelter VX enclosures, it can be mounted without tools in the rear channel. For other rack types, ensure appropriate mounting hardware (not included) is used to securely fasten the PDU vertically within the rack space.

2.3 Connecting Power
Connect the PDU's NEMA L5-30P input plug to a compatible 120V/30A power source. Ensure the power source is capable of handling the PDU's maximum load of 2.9 kW. Once the input power is connected, the PDU is ready to distribute power.
2.4 Connecting Equipment
Plug your rack-mount equipment into the twenty-four (24) NEMA 5-15 output receptacles on the PDU. Distribute the load evenly across the outlets to prevent overloading any single circuit or the PDU itself.
3. Operating Instructions
The APC Basic Rack PDU AP7532 operates as a pass-through power distribution unit. It does not feature individual outlet control or advanced monitoring capabilities. Power is continuously supplied to all connected outlets when the PDU is connected to a live power source.
- Power Distribution: Once connected to a power source, all 24 NEMA 5-15 outlets are live and ready to power connected devices.
- Load Management: Monitor the total power draw of connected equipment to ensure it does not exceed the PDU's maximum capacity of 2.9 kW (30A at 120V). Overloading can trip circuit breakers or damage equipment.
4. Maintenance
Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and reliable operation of your PDU.
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the exterior of the PDU with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents. Ensure the PDU is disconnected from power before cleaning.
- Cable Management: Ensure all power cables are neatly routed and secured to prevent accidental disconnections or strain on the outlets.
- Connection Checks: Periodically inspect all power connections (input and output) for looseness or signs of wear. Tighten any loose connections.
- Environmental Conditions: Ensure the PDU operates within recommended environmental conditions (temperature, humidity) as specified for your rack environment.
5. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your APC PDU, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
- No Power to Outlets:
- Verify that the PDU's input plug is securely connected to a live power source.
- Check the circuit breaker on the building's electrical panel or the upstream power source.
- Ensure the power source itself is operational.
- Specific Outlet Not Working:
- Ensure the device connected to the outlet is functioning correctly. Test it with another known working power source.
- Check if the device's power cord is securely plugged into the PDU outlet.
- Overload Tripping:
- If the PDU's internal circuit breaker (if present) or the upstream breaker trips, it indicates an overload.
- Reduce the total load connected to the PDU by unplugging some devices.
- Ensure the total power draw does not exceed 2.9 kW.
If problems persist after attempting these steps, contact APC technical support for further assistance.
