3. Setup

3.1 Battery Installation

  1. Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the AutoAnalyzer.
  2. Use a small screwdriver to remove the screw securing the battery cover, then carefully remove the cover.
  3. Connect a new 9-volt battery to the battery clip, ensuring correct polarity (+ to + and - to -).
  4. Place the battery into the compartment and replace the cover, securing it with the screw.
  5. The low battery indicator will illuminate on the LCD display when the battery needs replacement.

3.2 Connecting Test Leads

The AutoAnalyzer comes with color-coded test leads (red and black) and detachable alligator clips. Ensure proper connection for accurate and safe measurements.

  • Insert the black test lead into the "COM" (Common) input jack.
  • Insert the red test lead into the "V2126mA" input jack for voltage, resistance, and current measurements up to 200mA.
  • For current measurements up to 10A, insert the red test lead into the "10A MAX" input jack.
  • Attach the alligator clips to the test lead probes if needed for hands-free testing.

4. Operation

This section details the general operation of the Actron CP7665 AutoAnalyzer for various measurement types.

4.1 Powering On/Off and Display Features

  • To power on the device, rotate the central dial from the "OFF" position to any desired measurement function.
  • To power off, rotate the dial back to the "OFF" position.
  • The backlit LCD display can be activated by pressing the light bulb icon button for improved visibility in low-light conditions.
  • Press the HOLD button to freeze the current reading on the display. Press it again to release the hold function.

4.2 Selecting Measurement Function and Range

Rotate the central dial to select the desired measurement function (e.g., V~ for AC Voltage, V-- for DC Voltage, 2126 for Resistance, A-- for DC Current, Diode, or Battery Test). The AutoAnalyzer features 19 ranges, and automatic zero adjustment ensures accurate readings for volts, amps, and battery tests.

4.3 Measuring Voltage (AC/DC)

  1. Connect the black lead to "COM" and the red lead to "V2126mA".
  2. Rotate the dial to the appropriate voltage range: V~ for AC voltage or V-- for DC voltage.
  3. Touch the test probes to the points where voltage is to be measured. The reading will appear on the LCD.
  4. The unit features automatic polarity sensing for DC voltage, so reversed lead hook-ups will not damage the device, but will show a negative sign.

4.4 Measuring DC Current

  1. For currents up to 200mA, connect the black lead to "COM" and the red lead to "V2126mA". For currents up to 10A, connect the red lead to "10A MAX".
  2. Rotate the dial to the appropriate A-- (DC Current) range.
  3. Break the circuit and connect the multimeter in series with the circuit to measure current flow.

4.5 Measuring Resistance (Ohms)

  1. Connect the black lead to "COM" and the red lead to "V2126mA".
  2. Rotate the dial to the 2126 (Ohms) range.
  3. Ensure the circuit or component is de-energized before measuring resistance.
  4. Touch the test probes across the component to measure its resistance.

4.6 Testing Diodes and Batteries

  • Rotate the dial to the Diode symbol for diode testing.
  • Rotate the dial to the 1.5V, 9V, or 12V settings for specific battery tests.
  • Follow the instructions in the comprehensive usage manual for detailed testing procedures for these components, as well as fuses, switches, solenoids, and relays.

Important: The 10 M2126 input impedance is crucial for proper testing of sensitive automotive computer circuits, preventing damage to delicate electronic components.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

To clean the AutoAnalyzer, wipe the casing with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these may damage the plastic components or the display. Ensure the device is powered off and test leads are disconnected before cleaning.

5.2 Storage

When not in use for extended periods, it is recommended to remove the 9-volt battery to prevent leakage and potential damage to the device. Store the AutoAnalyzer and its accessories in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
