Package Contents
Verify that all components are present before beginning installation:
- One (1) Eaton CR20W-SP-L Commercial Grade Straight Blade Duplex Receptacle (White)
Note: Wallplate and mounting screws for the wallplate are typically sold separately.
Setup and Installation
Follow these steps carefully to install your Eaton CR20W-SP-L duplex receptacle:
- Turn Off Power: Locate the circuit breaker or fuse that controls the power to the outlet box where you intend to install the receptacle. Turn off the power completely. Use a voltage tester to confirm that the power is off at the outlet box.
- Remove Old Receptacle (if applicable): Carefully unscrew and remove the existing receptacle from the wall box. Disconnect the wires from the old receptacle, noting which wire was connected to which terminal (typically black to brass, white to silver, bare/green to green).
- Prepare Wires: If necessary, strip approximately 1/2 inch (12mm) of insulation from the ends of the electrical wires (hot, neutral, ground) in the wall box. Ensure the wire ends are clean and straight.
- Connect Wires: The Eaton CR20W-SP-L utilizes a side-wire method for secure connections. Form a hook at the end of each wire and wrap it clockwise around the appropriate terminal screw. Tighten the screws firmly to ensure good electrical contact.
- Connect the hot (black) wire to the brass-colored terminal screw.
- Connect the neutral (white) wire to the silver-colored terminal screw.
- Connect the ground (bare copper or green) wire to the green terminal screw.
Ensure no bare wire is exposed beyond the terminal screws and that wires are not pinched.
- Mount Receptacle: Carefully fold the connected wires into the electrical box. Insert the new receptacle into the box and secure it using the provided mounting screws. Do not overtighten.
- Install Wallplate: Attach the decorative wallplate (not included) over the receptacle, securing it with its own screws.
- Restore Power: Turn the power back on at the circuit breaker or fuse box. Test the receptacle with a known working device to ensure proper functionality.

Maintenance
The Eaton CR20W-SP-L receptacle requires minimal maintenance. Follow these guidelines:
- Periodic Inspection: Regularly inspect the receptacle for any signs of physical damage, such as cracks, discoloration, or loose connections.
- Cleaning: To clean the surface, wipe with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners, solvents, or abrasive materials near electrical components. Ensure power is off before cleaning.
- Loose Connections: If you notice any looseness in the receptacle or its connections, turn off power at the breaker and re-tighten all terminal screws. If the issue persists, consult a qualified electrician.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Eaton CR20W-SP-L receptacle, consider the following:
No Power to Receptacle
- Check Circuit Breaker/Fuse: Verify that the circuit breaker for the circuit is not tripped or that the fuse is not blown. Reset the breaker or replace the fuse if necessary.
- Verify Connections: Ensure all wire connections within the receptacle and the electrical box are secure and properly made. Turn off power before checking connections.
- Test with Another Device: Plug a different, known working device into the receptacle to confirm if the issue is with the receptacle or the original device.
- Consult an Electrician: If the issue persists after performing these checks, there may be a more complex electrical problem. Contact a qualified electrician for further diagnosis and repair.
