  • Leak Testing: Always perform a leak test after connecting the regulator to a propane tank and before each use. Use a soapy water solution; never use an open flame to check for leaks.
  • Proper Connections: Ensure all connections are tight and secure. Do not overtighten.
  • Damage Inspection: Do not use the regulator if it is damaged, cut, or shows signs of wear. Replace immediately.

4. Installation and Setup

Follow these steps to properly install your Mr. Heater High Pressure Propane Gas Regulator:

  1. Ensure Appliance is Off: Before connecting, ensure your propane appliance is turned off and its control valve is closed.
  2. Connect to Propane Tank:
    • Locate the POL fitting on the regulator.
    • Insert the POL fitting into the propane tank valve.
    • Important: The POL fitting uses a left-handed thread. Turn the fitting counter-clockwise to tighten it securely onto the tank valve. Hand-tighten only; do not use tools.
  3. Connect to Appliance:
    • Connect the .25 inch Female Pipe Thread (FPT) end of the regulator to the inlet of your high-pressure propane appliance.
    • Use appropriate thread sealant (e.g., PTFE tape or pipe dope) on the male threads of your appliance's inlet connection.
    • Tighten this connection with a wrench, ensuring it is secure but not overtightened.
  4. Perform Leak Test:
    • With all appliance valves closed, slowly open the propane tank valve.
    • Apply a soapy water solution (half liquid dish soap, half water) to all connections (tank to regulator, regulator to appliance).
    • Look for bubbles. If bubbles appear, there is a leak. Immediately close the propane tank valve, tighten the connection, and re-test. If the leak persists, do not use the regulator and contact customer support.
    • If no bubbles appear, the connections are secure.

5. Operating Instructions

Once the regulator is securely installed and leak-tested:

  1. Open Propane Tank Valve: Slowly open the main valve on your propane tank.
  2. Adjust Regulator Pressure: Turn the red control knob on the regulator to adjust the gas flow and pressure. The regulator provides a range of 0-20 PSI. Turn clockwise to increase pressure, counter-clockwise to decrease.
  3. Operate Appliance: Follow your appliance's instructions for ignition and operation.
  4. Shut Down: When finished, first close the main valve on the propane tank. Allow the gas in the line to burn off, then turn off your appliance. Finally, turn the regulator's control knob to the 'OFF' position (fully counter-clockwise).

This regulator is commonly used with high-pressure appliances such as torches, fish cookers, and smokers.

6. Care and Maintenance

  • Regular Inspection: Periodically inspect the regulator and its connections for any signs of damage, cracks, cuts, or excessive wear.
  • Cleaning: Clean the exterior of the regulator with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Ensure no water enters the gas passages.
  • Storage: When not in use, disconnect the regulator from the propane tank and store it in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Cap or cover the fittings to prevent debris from entering.
  • Replacement: If any part of the regulator appears damaged or worn, or if it fails a leak test, replace the entire unit. Do not attempt to repair it.
