Setup

Power Supply

The CH-1 pedal can be powered by a 9V alkaline battery or an optional PSA-series AC adapter. Ensure the power source is stable and provides the correct voltage.

  • Battery Installation: To install the battery, loosen the thumbscrew on the front of the pedal and open the pedal. Connect a 9V battery to the battery clip and place it inside the battery compartment. Close the pedal and secure the thumbscrew.
  • AC Adapter: Connect a BOSS PSA-series AC adapter (sold separately) to the DC IN jack. Using a non-BOSS adapter may cause malfunction.

Connections

Connect your instrument to the INPUT jack. For mono output, connect the OUTPUT A (MONO) jack to your amplifier. For stereo output, connect both OUTPUT A and OUTPUT B jacks to two separate amplifiers or channels on a mixer.

Operating the CH-1

The CH-1 pedal features four main control knobs to shape your chorus effect:

  • E.LEVEL (Effect Level): Adjusts the mixing level of the effect sound. Turn clockwise to increase the effect volume.
  • EQ: Controls the tone of the chorus sound. Turn clockwise for brighter tones (HI) and counter-clockwise for warmer tones (LO).
  • RATE: Sets the speed of the chorus effect. Turn clockwise for faster modulation and counter-clockwise for slower modulation.
  • DEPTH: Sets the intensity or depth of the chorus effect. Turn clockwise for a more pronounced, deeper chorus.

To activate the effect, press the pedal switch. The CHECK indicator will light up when the effect is active. When the effect is off, the pedal operates in buffered bypass mode.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your BOSS CH-1 pedal, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the pedal. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents, as they may damage the finish.
  • Storage: Store the pedal in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for an extended period, remove the battery to prevent leakage.
  • Battery Replacement: Replace the 9V battery when the CHECK indicator dims or fails to light up when the effect is engaged.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your CH-1 pedal, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Sound:
    • Check all cable connections (instrument to input, output to amplifier).
    • Ensure the power supply is connected correctly and functioning (check battery or AC adapter).
    • Verify that your instrument and amplifier are working correctly.
  • Weak or Distorted Sound:
    • Check the battery level; replace if low.
    • Ensure all cables are in good condition and fully inserted.
    • Adjust the E.LEVEL and EQ knobs to appropriate settings.
  • Effect Not Engaging:
    • Confirm the pedal switch is fully depressed.
    • Check power supply.

If problems persist, consult the official BOSS support resources or a qualified technician.
