Setup
- Power Connection: The BD-2 can be powered by a 9V carbon-zinc battery or an optional AC adapter (PSA series, sold separately).
- To install the battery, loosen the thumbscrew on the front of the pedal and open the pedal. Connect the 9V battery to the battery snap and place it inside the battery compartment. Close the pedal and secure the thumbscrew.
- For AC adapter use, connect the adapter to the 9V DC IN jack on the rear of the pedal.
- Input Connection: Connect your guitar to the INPUT jack (1/4-inch audio jack) on the right side of the pedal using a standard instrument cable.
- Output Connection: Connect the OUTPUT jack (1/4-inch audio jack) on the left side of the pedal to your amplifier's input using another standard instrument cable.
- Activation: The pedal is activated by pressing the foot switch. The CHECK indicator LED will illuminate when the effect is active.

Operating the BD-2 Blues Driver
The BOSS BD-2 features three primary control knobs to shape your tone:
- LEVEL: Adjusts the overall output volume of the effect. Turn clockwise to increase volume, counter-clockwise to decrease.
- TONE: Controls the tonal character of the overdrive. Turning it clockwise brightens the sound, while turning it counter-clockwise makes it warmer and darker.
- GAIN: Determines the amount of overdrive/distortion. Higher settings produce more aggressive, saturated tones, while lower settings offer subtle breakup.
Achieving Different Tones
Experiment with the control knobs to discover a wide range of bluesy tones. Here are some general guidelines:
- For a subtle, warm overdrive, set the GAIN low, TONE around noon, and adjust LEVEL to match your amplifier's clean volume.
- To achieve a more aggressive, crunchy blues tone, increase the GAIN and adjust TONE to your preference for brightness.
- The BD-2 is highly responsive to your guitar's volume knob and picking dynamics, allowing for nuanced expression. Rolling back your guitar's volume can clean up the sound even with high GAIN settings.

Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the pedal's exterior. Avoid abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Battery Replacement: If the CHECK indicator LED dims or the sound becomes distorted, replace the 9V battery. Always remove the battery if the pedal will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
- Storage: Store the pedal in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Input/Output Jacks: Ensure cables are inserted firmly into the input and output jacks. Loose connections can cause signal loss or noise.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No sound or weak sound. | Incorrect cable connections, dead battery, or amplifier issues. | Check all cable connections. Replace the 9V battery. Ensure your amplifier is powered on and functioning correctly. |
| CHECK indicator LED does not light up. | Dead battery or no power supply. | Replace the 9V battery or connect a compatible AC adapter. |
| Excessive noise or hum. | Poor grounding, faulty cables, or interference from other electronics. | Use shielded cables. Ensure proper grounding for all equipment. Try moving the pedal away from power sources or other electronic devices. |
| Sound is too distorted or not distorted enough. | GAIN knob setting is too high/low. | Adjust the GAIN knob to achieve the desired level of overdrive/distortion. |
