Safety Information

Always prioritize safety when operating hydraulic equipment. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious injury or property damage.

  • Read the Entire Manual: Before using the jack, read and understand all instructions and warnings contained in this manual.
  • Rated Capacity: Do not exceed the jack's rated capacity of 3 tons (6,000 lb). Overloading can cause equipment failure and injury.
  • Stable Surface: Always use the jack on a hard, level surface capable of supporting the load.
  • Support Load: Never work under a load supported only by the jack. Always use appropriate jack stands or other support devices.
  • Inspect Before Use: Before each use, inspect the jack for any signs of damage, leaks, or wear. Do not use if damaged.
  • Proper Attachment: Ensure the jack is properly attached to the crane or hoist and that all fasteners are secure.
  • Clear Work Area: Keep the work area clear of obstructions and ensure adequate lighting.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Wear appropriate safety glasses and gloves.
  • Avoid Modifications: Do not modify the jack in any way. Unauthorized modifications can compromise safety and void the warranty.
  • Hydraulic Fluid: Use only high-quality hydraulic jack oil. Do not use brake fluid or other fluids.

Setup

Follow these steps for initial setup and installation of your hydraulic long ram jack.

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove the jack from its packaging. Inspect for any shipping damage.
  2. Familiarization: Identify all components: the main cylinder, pump handle socket, release valve, and clevis base.
  3. Purging Air (Bleeding): Before first use, or if the jack has been stored horizontally, it may be necessary to purge air from the hydraulic system.
    • Open the release valve by turning it counter-clockwise.
    • Pump the handle several times to force air out.
    • Close the release valve by turning it clockwise.
  4. Mounting: Securely attach the clevis base of the long ram jack to your garage/shop crane or engine hoist using appropriate hardware. Ensure all bolts and nuts are tightened to the manufacturer's specifications for your crane/hoist.

Operating Instructions

This section details the proper procedure for operating your hydraulic long ram jack.

Lifting a Load:

  1. Positioning: Ensure the crane/hoist with the attached jack is positioned correctly and stably over the load to be lifted.
  2. Close Release Valve: Turn the release valve clockwise until it is firmly closed. Do not overtighten.
  3. Pump Handle: Insert the pump handle into the handle socket. Pump the handle steadily up and down to raise the ram and lift the load.
  4. Monitor Load: Lift the load slowly and observe its stability. Do not lift beyond the jack's maximum extension or the crane/hoist's safe operating limits.
  5. Secure Load: Once the desired height is reached, immediately secure the load with appropriate jack stands or other support devices before performing any work. The jack is a lifting device, not a load-holding device.

Lowering a Load:

  1. Clear Area: Ensure the area beneath the load is clear of personnel and obstructions.
  2. Slow Release: Slowly and carefully turn the release valve counter-clockwise to gradually lower the ram. Do not open the valve too quickly, as this can cause the load to drop suddenly.
  3. Controlled Descent: Maintain control over the lowering speed.
  4. Full Retraction: Once the load is fully lowered and supported, retract the jack completely.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your hydraulic jack.

  • Lubrication: Keep all moving parts, including the ram and pump mechanism, lightly lubricated with a general-purpose grease or oil.
  • Cleanliness: Keep the jack clean and free from dirt, grime, and corrosive materials. Wipe down after each use.
  • Hydraulic Fluid Level: Periodically check the hydraulic fluid level.
    • With the ram fully retracted, remove the oil filler plug.
    • The oil level should be just below the filler hole.
    • If low, add high-quality hydraulic jack oil (e.g., ISO VG 15 or equivalent). Do not overfill.
    • Replace the filler plug securely.
  • Storage: Store the jack in a clean, dry place with the ram fully retracted. Avoid exposure to extreme temperatures.
  • Annual Inspection: Have the jack inspected annually by a qualified service technician for wear, damage, and proper function.
