STEREN 910-010

Steren 910-010 Dual Voltage Foreign Converter

Instruction Manual

1. Introduction

The Steren 910-010 Dual Voltage Foreign Converter is designed to enable the use of personal care appliances and other low-wattage electronic devices in countries with 220-240VAC electrical systems. This kit converts foreign voltage to 110-120VAC, suitable for U.S. appliances, and includes various plug adapters for global compatibility. It features dual wattage settings (50W and 1600W) to accommodate different appliance power requirements.

2. Setup

  1. Identify Local Voltage: Before connecting any appliance, determine the local voltage of the country you are in. This converter is for use in 220-240VAC regions.
  2. Select Appropriate Plug Adapter: Choose the correct plug adapter from the kit that matches the wall outlet in your current location. Attach it firmly to the converter.
  3. Determine Appliance Wattage: Check the wattage rating of the appliance you intend to use. This information is usually found on the appliance itself or in its instruction manual.
  4. Set Converter Wattage Switch:
    • For appliances up to 50 watts (e.g., electric shavers, battery chargers, curling irons with low wattage): Set the switch to "50W".
    • For appliances between 51 and 1600 watts (e.g., hair dryers, travel irons, coffee makers): Set the switch to "1600W".

Caution: Ensure the wattage setting on the converter matches or exceeds the appliance's wattage. Using an incorrect setting can damage the appliance or the converter. Do not use with electronic appliances that have timers, automatic shut-off, or complex circuitry, as these require a transformer, not a converter.

  5. Connect Appliance: Plug your 110-120VAC appliance into the converter's outlet.
  6. Plug into Wall Outlet: Insert the converter (with the attached plug adapter) into the foreign wall outlet.

3. Operating Instructions

Once the converter is properly set up and plugged into the wall outlet, you can operate your appliance as usual. The converter will step down the 220-240VAC foreign voltage to 110-120VAC, allowing your U.S. appliance to function.

  • Continuous Use: For optimal performance and safety, avoid continuous use of high-wattage appliances for extended periods. Allow the converter to cool down between uses if it feels warm.
  • Appliance Compatibility: This converter is primarily designed for heating appliances and motor-driven appliances without electronic components. It is not suitable for sensitive electronics such as laptops, cell phones, or appliances with microprocessors, which typically require a voltage transformer or a dual-voltage appliance.
  • Unplug When Not in Use: Always unplug the converter from the wall outlet and disconnect your appliance when not in use.

4. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Clean the converter with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the converter and its adapters in the provided travel case in a cool, dry place when not in use.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the converter and power cords for any signs of damage, such as frayed wires or cracked casings. Do not use if damaged.

5. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Appliance does not power on.
  • Incorrect wattage setting.
  • Loose connection.
  • Appliance is not compatible with a voltage converter.
  • No power from wall outlet.
  • Verify the converter's wattage switch matches the appliance's requirement.
  • Ensure all connections (wall, converter, appliance) are secure.
  • Confirm the appliance is not sensitive electronics requiring a transformer.
  • Test the wall outlet with another known working device.
Converter or appliance overheats.
  • Appliance wattage exceeds converter's capacity.
  • Prolonged use of high-wattage appliance.
  • Poor ventilation.
  • Immediately unplug. Check appliance wattage and ensure it is within the converter's 1600W limit.
  • Reduce usage time for high-wattage appliances.
  • Ensure the converter is placed in an open area with adequate airflow.
Converter does not fit into wall outlet.
  • Incorrect plug adapter selected.
  • Refer to a global plug guide to select the correct adapter for the country you are in.
