4. Setup

4.1 Unpacking and Placement

Carefully remove the CD changer from its packaging. Place the unit on a stable, level surface with adequate ventilation. Avoid placing it near heat sources or in direct sunlight.

4.2 Connecting to an Audio System

The DX-C390 offers both analog and digital audio outputs for connection to your amplifier or receiver.

  1. Analog Connection: Use the supplied RCA audio cable to connect the AUDIO OUTPUT (L/R) jacks on the rear panel of the DX-C390 to the corresponding analog audio input jacks (e.g., "CD" or "AUX") on your amplifier or receiver.
  2. Digital Connection (Optional): For optimal sound quality, use either an optical digital cable or a coaxial digital cable (not supplied) to connect the DIGITAL OUTPUT (OPTICAL or COAXIAL) jack on the DX-C390 to a digital input on your amplifier or receiver. Ensure your amplifier/receiver is set to the correct digital input.
  3. RI (Remote Interactive) Connection (Optional): If you have other compatible Onkyo components, connect the RI REMOTE CONTROL jack on the DX-C390 to the RI jack on your receiver using an RI cable (not supplied). This allows for integrated system control.

4.3 Power Connection

Connect the power cord of the DX-C390 to a standard 120V AC wall outlet.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Basic Playback

  1. Press the POWER button to turn on the unit.
  2. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button to open the disc tray.
  3. Place up to six CDs onto the disc carousel, ensuring they are seated correctly with the label side up.
  4. Press OPEN/CLOSE again to close the disc tray. The unit will read the discs.
  5. Press the PLAY button to start playback. The unit will begin playing the first track of the first loaded disc.

5.2 Changing Discs During Playback

The DX-C390 allows you to change up to five discs while one disc is still playing. Press the DISC SKIP button to rotate the carousel and access other disc slots. Load or remove discs as needed, then press DISC SKIP again to return to the playing disc.

5.3 Remote Control Functions

The supplied RC-777C remote control provides full functionality for the DX-C390. Insert the two supplied AA batteries into the remote control, observing correct polarity.

  • POWER: Turns the unit on/off.
  • OPEN/CLOSE: Opens and closes the disc tray.
  • PLAY/PAUSE/STOP: Controls playback.
  • SKIP (<< / >>): Skips to the previous or next track.
  • DISC 1-6: Directly selects a disc for playback.
  • REPEAT: Cycles through repeat modes (e.g., single track, single disc, all discs).
  • RANDOM: Initiates random playback of tracks.
  • MEMORY/PROGRAM: Used for programming a custom playback sequence of up to 40 tracks.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning the Unit

Wipe the exterior of the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents. For stubborn stains, lightly dampen the cloth with water and a mild detergent, then wipe dry.

6.2 Disc Care

Handle discs by their edges. Keep discs clean and free of scratches. Store discs in their cases when not in use. Avoid exposing discs to direct sunlight or high temperatures.

Problem Possible Cause Solution
No power Power cord disconnected; Power outlet faulty. Ensure power cord is securely connected. Test the outlet with another device.
No sound Audio cables incorrectly connected; Incorrect input selected on amplifier/receiver; Volume too low. Check all audio cable connections. Select the correct input on your amplifier/receiver. Increase volume.
