5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Making Filter Coffee (up to 10 cups)

  1. Open the filter coffee lid and place the permanent gold filter into the filter holder. If preferred, you can use a paper filter (size #4) instead.
  2. Add the desired amount of ground coffee into the filter. A general guideline is one scoop (approx. 7g) per cup, adjusting to taste.
  3. Fill the water reservoir with cold water according to the desired number of cups using the water level indicator.
  4. Place the empty glass carafe on the warming plate.
  5. Plug the machine into a power outlet.
  6. Turn on the machine using the 'Coffee' switch. The indicator light will illuminate.
  7. The machine will begin brewing. Once the brewing cycle is complete, the warming plate will keep the coffee warm.
  8. Turn off the machine when finished.

5.2. Making Espresso (up to 4 cups)

  1. Fill the water reservoir with fresh, cold water.
  2. Add ground espresso coffee to the espresso filter holder. Tamp lightly for best results.
  3. Securely attach the espresso filter holder to the machine.
  4. Place one or two espresso cups under the spouts of the filter holder.
  5. Plug the machine into a power outlet.
  6. Turn on the machine and wait for the 'Espresso Ready' indicator light (if available) or until the machine has preheated.
  7. Activate the 'Espresso' brew function. The machine will dispense espresso into the cups.
  8. Turn off the espresso function once the desired amount is brewed.

5.3. Frothing Milk for Cappuccino (IFD System)

  1. Fill a pitcher with cold milk (preferably skim or semi-skimmed for best froth).
  2. Ensure the machine is heated and ready for steam. Turn on the 'Cappuccino' switch and wait for the steam ready indicator.
  3. Submerge the steam wand (IFD System) into the milk, just below the surface.
  4. Turn on the steam function.
  5. Move the pitcher up and down gently to incorporate air and create froth.
  6. Once the desired volume and texture of froth are achieved, turn off the steam function.
  7. Wipe the steam wand immediately after use with a damp cloth.

6. Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning and maintenance will prolong the life of your De'Longhi DC 300 IS machine and ensure optimal coffee quality.

6.1. Daily Cleaning

  • After each use, empty and clean the glass carafe and filter holders with warm soapy water. Rinse thoroughly.
  • Rinse the permanent gold filter under running water.
  • Wipe down the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth.

6.2. Cleaning the Steam Wand / IFD System

  • Immediately after frothing milk, wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to remove any milk residue.
  • Briefly activate the steam function to clear any internal milk blockages from the nozzle.

6.3. Descaling

  • Regular descaling is crucial, especially in areas with hard water, to prevent mineral buildup and maintain machine performance.
  • Use a commercial descaling solution specifically designed for coffee machines.
  • Follow the descaling solution manufacturer's instructions carefully.
  • After descaling, run several cycles of clean water through the machine to rinse out any descaling solution residue.

Note: The De'Longhi DC 300 IS machine is NOT dishwasher safe. Do not place any parts in a dishwasher unless explicitly stated in the product documentation.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your machine, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Machine does not turn on:
Check if the power cord is securely plugged into the wall outlet and the machine. Ensure the power switch is in the 'ON' position.
  • Coffee is not brewing or brewing slowly:
Check if the water reservoir is filled. Ensure the filter is not clogged with coffee grounds. Descale the machine if necessary.
  • Coffee is too weak or too strong:
Adjust the amount of ground coffee used. Ensure the correct grind size for your chosen coffee type (finer for espresso, coarser for filter).
  • No steam or poor milk frothing:
Ensure the machine has reached the correct temperature for steam. Clean the steam wand thoroughly, as it may be clogged with dried milk.
  • Water leaking from the machine:
Check that all removable parts (water reservoir, filter holders) are correctly seated and sealed.

If the problem persists after attempting these solutions, please contact customer support.
