Setup and Connections

Before connecting your Technics SH-GE70, ensure all audio components are powered off. Proper connection is crucial for optimal performance and to prevent damage to your equipment.

1. Placement:

Place the equalizer on a stable, flat surface, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and excessive dust or moisture. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit.

2. Audio Connections:

The SH-GE70 typically connects between your audio source (e.g., CD player, tape deck) and your amplifier, or within your amplifier's tape monitor loop. Use high-quality RCA cables for all connections.

  • Connecting to a Tape Monitor Loop:
    1. Connect the "REC OUT" jacks of your amplifier to the "LINE IN" jacks on the SH-GE70.
    2. Connect the "PLAYBACK IN" jacks of your amplifier to the "LINE OUT" jacks on the SH-GE70.
  • Connecting to a Tape Deck (for recording equalization):
    1. Connect the "REC OUT" jacks of the SH-GE70 to the "LINE IN" jacks of your tape deck.
    2. Connect the "LINE OUT" jacks of your tape deck to the "PLAYBACK IN" jacks on the SH-GE70.

3. Power Connection and Voltage Adjustment:

Connect the supplied AC power cord to the unit's power input and then to a suitable wall outlet. Important: Before connecting power, verify the voltage adjustment switch on the rear panel (labeled "VOLT ADJ") is set to match your local power supply (e.g., 110V, 127V, 220V, 240V). Incorrect voltage settings can damage the unit.

2. Equalization Adjustment:

The SH-GE70 features seven frequency bands per channel, each controlled by a dedicated slider. Adjust these sliders to boost or cut frequencies by up to +/- 12dB.

  1. Adjust the sliders to your desired equalization curve.
  2. Press the MEMORY button.
  3. Select the desired preset number (1-12) to save your settings.

5. Spectrum Analyzer Display:

The central display acts as a spectrum analyzer, visually representing the frequency content of the audio signal. You can cycle through different display modes using the DISPLAY MODE button:

  • Memory: Shows the currently selected memory preset curve.
  • Fixed: Displays a fixed frequency response.
  • Manual: Shows the current manual slider settings.
  • EQ On/Off: Toggles the display to show the effect of the EQ.
  • Reverse: Inverts the display.
