  2. Plug the other end of the power cord into a suitable AC power outlet.
  3. Ensure the power switch on the drive unit is in the OFF position before connecting.

4.3 Audio Connections

The CDN88 PRO features two independent audio outputs (for Deck A and Deck B) to connect to a DJ mixer or sound system.

  1. Locate the RCA audio output jacks on the rear of the drive unit for Deck A and Deck B.
  2. Connect standard RCA cables from these outputs to available line-level inputs on your DJ mixer. Ensure Deck A output is connected to one mixer channel and Deck B output to another.

5.1 Basic Playback

  1. Power On: Press the POWER button on the drive unit. The display on the control unit will illuminate.
  2. Load CD: Press the OPEN/CLOSE button for the desired deck (A or B) on the drive unit. Insert a CD into the tray, label side up, and press OPEN/CLOSE again to close the tray. The unit will read the disc.
  3. Play/Pause: Press the PLAY/PAUSE button to start playback. Press it again to pause.
  4. Cue: While paused, press the CUE button to return to the last set cue point. If no cue point is set, it will return to the beginning of the track.
  5. Track Selection: Use the TRACK SKIP buttons (<< / >>) to navigate between tracks.

5.2 Pitch Control and Key Lock

The CDN88 PRO offers extensive control over playback speed and musical key.

  • Pitch Slider: Adjust the vertical pitch slider to change the playback speed (BPM) of the track. The display will show the current pitch percentage.
  • Pitch Range: Use the PITCH RANGE buttons to select different pitch adjustment ranges: +/-6%, +/-12%, +/-25%, and +/-100%. The +/-100% range allows for extreme speed changes, including stopping the audio at -100%.
  • Key Lock (Master Tempo): Press the KEY LOCK button to activate this feature. When active, changing the pitch will alter the tempo without affecting the musical key of the track. Press again to deactivate.

5.3 Real-time Scratching and DSP Effects

The large jog wheels provide a tactile interface for scratching and track manipulation.

  • Scratching: While a track is playing, place your hand on the top surface of the jog wheel and move it back and forth to simulate vinyl scratching. The unit provides a realistic vinyl sound and feel.
  • Scratch Reverse: This is one of the interactive DSP effects. Consult the effects section on the control panel to activate and adjust.
  • Reverse Play: Press the REVERSE button to play the track backward. Press again to resume forward playback.

  • Seamless Loops: During playback, press LOOP IN to set the loop start point. Press LOOP OUT to set the loop end point and activate the loop. Press RELOOP to re-engage the last stored loop.
  • Hot Stutter Starts: The CDN88 PRO features 3 hot stutter start points. These allow for instant, short, repeating playback from a set cue point, ideal for creative effects.

5.5 Beatkeeper™ and Interlock™

The integrated Beatkeeper™ system assists with beat matching and synchronization.

  • Beatkeeper™: This feature automatically detects and displays the BPM (Beats Per Minute) of the playing track.
  • Interlock™: When activated, Interlock™ can automatically synchronize the BPM of both decks, aligning cue points and facilitating seamless transitions. Refer to the display and dedicated buttons for Interlock™ activation and adjustment.

6. Advanced Features

  • Real-time Scratching: Experience authentic vinyl-like scratching with responsive jog wheels and true vinyl sound emulation.
  • Built-in Beatkeeper™ with Auto-mixing and Synchronization: Automatically detects BPM and offers functions to synchronize tracks between decks for smooth mixing.
  • Interactive DSP Effects: Includes effects such as scratch reverse to enhance creative performance.
  • ±100% KEY LOCK with Key Control: Maintain the original musical key of a track even when significantly altering its tempo.
  • Dual Seamless Loops with 3 Hot Stutter Starts: Create and re-engage perfect loops instantly, and trigger short, repeating audio segments for dynamic effects.
  • 200% Pitch Range: Offers pitch adjustment from +/-6%, +/-12%, +/-25%, and +/-100% for precise or extreme tempo manipulation. At -100%, the audio can be brought to a complete stop.
  • True Buffered Instant Start: Ensures immediate audio playback upon pressing the PLAY button.
  • Numark Anti-shock™ Technology: Provides a 48-second buffer memory to prevent audio skips due to vibrations or impacts, ensuring uninterrupted playback.

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

  • Exterior: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior surfaces of the unit. Do not use abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents.
  • CD Tray: Keep the CD tray free of dust and debris. Avoid touching the lens inside the CD mechanism. If cleaning is necessary, use a specialized CD lens cleaner disc.
