Model: 1935

Introduction

The Nikon AF DC Nikkor 135mm f/2.0D Autofocus Lens is a high-performance, medium telephoto lens designed for Nikon DSLR cameras. It features unique Nikon Defocus-image Control (DC) technology, which provides precise control over background and foreground blur, making it ideal for portrait photography. This lens offers autofocus capability and a large maximum aperture of f/2.0 for effective shooting in low-light conditions.

Operating the Lens

Autofocus Operation

This lens supports autofocus (AF) operation. Ensure your camera body has an internal autofocus motor, as this is a D-type lens. Cameras such as the Nikon D40 and D60 do not support AF with this lens and will require manual focusing.

  • Set the focus mode switch on your camera to AF.
  • The lens will automatically focus when the shutter button is half-pressed.

Manual Focus Operation

To focus manually, set the focus mode switch on your camera to M (Manual). Rotate the focusing ring on the lens until the subject appears sharp in the viewfinder or on the camera's LCD screen.

Defocus-image Control (DC)

The Defocus-image Control (DC) feature allows you to adjust the degree of spherical aberration in the foreground or background, thereby controlling the appearance of out-of-focus elements (bokeh). This is particularly useful for portrait photography to create pleasing background blur.

  1. Locate the DC ring on the lens barrel. It is marked with 'F' (Foreground) and 'R' (Rear/Background) settings, along with aperture values.
  2. To control background blur, rotate the DC ring towards 'R' and align it with the aperture value you are using (e.g., if shooting at f/2.8, set the DC ring to R2.8).
  3. To control foreground blur, rotate the DC ring towards 'F' and align it with the aperture value you are using.
  4. For normal operation without DC effect, set the DC ring to the '0' (neutral) position.

Important Note: When using the DC function, it is crucial to set your focus after adjusting the DC ring. The DC setting affects the plane of focus, and re-focusing is necessary to achieve sharp results on your subject.

Maintenance

Cleaning the Lens

  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth or a lens brush to remove dust from the lens surfaces.
  • For smudges or fingerprints, apply a small amount of lens cleaning solution to a clean lens cloth and gently wipe the surface in a circular motion.
  • Do not use organic solvents such as paint thinner or benzene to clean the lens.

Storage

When not in use, store the lens with both front and rear caps attached in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Avoid storing the lens in areas with high humidity to prevent mold growth.
