Setup

  1. Place the Cariboo Island Game Board on a flat, stable surface. The game board itself forms the base of play.
  2. Ensure the treasure chest on the board is closed. It will pop open automatically when all six treasure balls are collected.
  3. Randomly place the six treasure balls into six of the secret compartments under the flip-up panels on the game board. The remaining compartments will be empty.
  4. Choose either the Beginner or Advanced set of cards based on the players' age and skill level. Shuffle the chosen deck and place it face down near the game board.
  5. Place the key next to the card deck.

Operating (How to Play)

Cranium Cariboo is designed for 2 to 4 players. The objective is to find all six treasure balls to open the treasure chest.

Game Play Steps:

  1. The youngest player starts the game. Play proceeds clockwise.
  2. On your turn, draw the top card from the deck.
  3. Identify the image on the card (e.g., a letter, number, shape, or color).
  4. Find the matching image on one of the flip-up panels on the game board.
  5. Use the key to unlock and open the corresponding panel.
  6. Look inside the compartment:
    • If you find a treasure ball, take it out and place it into one of the six chutes at the top of the game board.
    • If the compartment is empty, simply close the panel.
  7. After your turn, place the used card in a discard pile.
  8. Pass the key to the next player.

Winning the Game:

The game continues until all six treasure balls have been found and placed into the chutes. Once the sixth ball is placed, the treasure chest will automatically pop open, revealing the hidden treasure. All players win together!

Beginner vs. Advanced Cards:

  • Beginner Cards: Focus on single concepts like specific letters (A, B, C), numbers (1, 2, 3), basic shapes (circle, square), or primary colors. These are ideal for younger players just starting to learn these concepts.
  • Advanced Cards: Introduce more complex matching, such as objects that combine multiple attributes (e.g., "2 red airplanes in the shape of triangles"). This set provides a greater challenge and extends the game's educational value as children grow.

Maintenance

Proper care will ensure the longevity of your Cranium Cariboo game:

  • Cleaning: Wipe the game board and plastic components with a soft, damp cloth. Do not submerge the board in water. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Storage: Store all game components, including cards, balls, and the key, inside the game board's designated storage areas or the original box. Keep the game in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to prevent warping or fading.
  • Handling: Handle the flip-up panels and the key gently to prevent damage to the locking mechanism.

Troubleshooting

Here are solutions to common issues you might encounter:

ProblemSolution
