1. Introduction
This instruction manual provides detailed information on the proper use, care, and maintenance of your Sigma Quantaray 100-300mm AF Lens. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the lens to ensure optimal performance and longevity. This lens is designed for Minolta Maxxum AF and Sony Alpha A-Mount cameras.
2. Product Overview
The Sigma Quantaray 100-300mm AF Lens is a compact telephoto zoom lens, measuring less than 4 inches long and under 2.8 inches in diameter. It features original three-group zoom technology and incorporates Special Low Dispersion (SLD) glass to minimize color aberration, ensuring high optical performance across its 100-300mm focal range. This lens is suitable for various photographic applications, including portraiture, sports, and nature photography.

3. Setup
3.1 Attaching the Lens
- Remove the rear lens cap and the camera body cap.
- Align the mounting index mark on the lens barrel with the corresponding index mark on the camera body.
- Insert the lens into the camera's lens mount and turn it clockwise until it clicks into place. Ensure the lens is securely locked.
3.2 Detaching the Lens
- Turn off the camera.
- While pressing the lens release button on the camera body, turn the lens counter-clockwise until it stops.
- Carefully remove the lens from the camera body.
- Attach the rear lens cap to the lens and the body cap to the camera to protect them from dust and damage.
4. Operating the Lens
4.1 Zooming
To change the focal length, rotate the zoom ring on the lens barrel. The focal lengths (100mm, 135mm, 200mm, 300mm) are marked on the ring. Rotate towards 300mm for telephoto magnification and towards 100mm for a wider telephoto view.
4.2 Focusing
This lens supports both autofocus (AF) and manual focus (MF).
- Autofocus (AF): Set your camera to AF mode. The lens will automatically focus when the shutter button is half-pressed.
- Manual Focus (MF): Set your camera to MF mode. Rotate the focus ring on the lens barrel until the subject appears sharp in the viewfinder or on the camera's LCD screen. The focus distance scale (in feet and meters) is visible on the lens barrel to assist with manual focusing.
4.3 Aperture Control
Aperture settings are typically controlled via your camera body. The lens communicates with the camera to set the desired aperture. The lens barrel may display aperture markings (e.g., f/22, f/11) for reference, indicating the range of available apertures.
5. Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning the Lens
- Use a blower brush to remove dust from the lens surface.
- For smudges or fingerprints, use a clean, soft microfiber cloth specifically designed for optical lenses, along with a small amount of lens cleaning solution.
- Wipe gently in a circular motion from the center outwards.
- Do not use organic solvents like paint thinner or benzene to clean the lens.
5.2 Storage
- When not in use, always attach the front and rear lens caps.
- Store the lens in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and high humidity.
- Consider using a desiccant (e.g., silica gel) in the storage area to prevent mold growth.
- Avoid storing the lens near equipment that generates strong electromagnetic fields.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
