3. Setup

Battery Installation:

The Rayovac SP8D lantern requires eight (8) D-cell alkaline batteries (sold separately) for operation. Follow these steps to install the batteries:

2. Locate the battery compartment at the base of the lantern.
3. Twist the base counter-clockwise to unlock and remove it.
4. Insert eight D-cell batteries according to the polarity indicators (+/-) inside the compartment.
5. Replace the base and twist clockwise until securely locked.

4. Operating Instructions

Turning On/Off and Light Modes:

The lantern features a rotary switch on the top for power control and mode selection.

1. To turn on the lantern, rotate the switch from the 'OFF' position.
2. Continue rotating the switch to cycle through the available light modes:
• High: Provides maximum brightness (300 lumens) for extensive area illumination.
• Low (Energy Saver): Reduces brightness to conserve battery life.
• Night Light: Offers a dim, soft glow suitable for ambient lighting.
3. To turn off the lantern, rotate the switch back to the 'OFF' position.

5. Maintenance

Bulb Replacement:

The lantern uses a twin 9-watt fluorescent U-tube bulb (replacement bulb model F9W-1, sold separately). To replace the bulb:

1. Ensure the lantern is off and batteries are removed.
2. Carefully open the top housing to access the bulb.
3. Gently pull out the old bulb.
4. Insert the new F9W-1 bulb, ensuring it is seated correctly.
5. Close the housing securely.

Battery Care:

• Always use fresh, high-quality D-cell alkaline batteries.
• Remove batteries from the lantern if it will not be used for extended periods (e.g., over 30 days) to prevent potential leakage and damage.
• Dispose of used batteries responsibly according to local regulations.

Cleaning:

Wipe the exterior of the lantern with a damp cloth. Do not submerge the lantern in water. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents.

• Lantern does not turn on:
  • Check if batteries are installed correctly with correct polarity.
