Introduction

Setup

1. Battery Installation

The PT-65 labeler requires six AA batteries for operation. To install the batteries:

1. Locate the battery compartment on the underside of the labeler.
2. Open the battery compartment cover.
3. Insert six AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
4. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

2. Tape Cartridge Installation

The labeler uses Brother M tape cartridges. To install a tape cartridge:

1. Ensure the labeler is powered off.
2. Open the tape compartment cover, typically located on the top or side of the device.
3. Insert the M tape cartridge firmly into the compartment, ensuring it clicks into place. The tape should feed smoothly into the printing mechanism.
4. Close the tape compartment cover.

Operating Instructions

1. Power On/Off

Press the Power button (usually red or clearly marked) to turn the labeler on or off. The device features an auto-off function to conserve battery life.

2. Typing Text

Use the QWERTY keyboard to type the desired text for your label. The text will appear on the LCD screen. The labeler supports up to two lines of text.

3. Customizing Labels

The PT-65 offers various customization options:

• Font Styles and Sizes: Use the dedicated buttons or menu options to select from nine type styles and five type sizes.
• Symbols: Access 83 built-in symbols to add to your labels.
• Framing and Underlining: Apply text framing or underlining features as needed.
• Multiple Copies: Print up to nine copies of the same label.

4. Printing Labels

After typing and customizing your label:

1. Review the text on the LCD screen to ensure accuracy.
2. Press the Print button. The labeler will print the label and automatically cut it.
3. Gently pull the printed label from the labeler's output slot.

5. Peeling and Applying Labels

To apply the label:

1. Carefully peel the backing from the adhesive side of the label.
2. Apply the label to a clean, dry surface.

Maintenance

1. Replacing Tape Cartridges

When the tape in the cartridge runs out or you wish to change tape types, follow the tape cartridge installation steps outlined in the Setup section.

2. Cleaning the Labeler

To maintain optimal performance:

• Wipe the exterior of the labeler with a soft, dry cloth.
• Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
• Periodically clean the print head with a cotton swab moistened with isopropyl alcohol. Ensure the labeler is off and batteries are removed before cleaning the print head.

Troubleshooting

• Label not printing or faint print: Check if the tape cartridge is installed correctly and if there is enough tape. Ensure batteries are not depleted. Clean the print head if necessary.
• Difficulty peeling label backing: Some users find it easier to gently bend the label lengthwise to separate the backing from the adhesive side.
• Labeler does not power on: Verify that six fresh AA batteries are correctly installed with the proper polarity.
