Operating Instructions
Making Iced Tea
- Prepare Tea: Add your desired amount of loose leaf tea or tea bags into the removable filter within the brewing basket. Adjust quantity according to taste and desired strength.
- Add Water: Open the lid and fill the water reservoir with fresh, cold water up to the desired level, indicated by the water level indicator. Do not exceed the MAX fill line.
- Add Ice (Optional): For immediate iced tea, you may add ice directly into the carafe before brewing. Adjust the amount of water added to the reservoir if adding a significant amount of ice to the carafe to prevent overflow.
- Position Carafe: Ensure the carafe is correctly positioned on the warming plate. The pouring spout should face the back, and the handle should face straight out. This ensures the spring mechanism for drip-stop is engaged.
- Start Brewing: Plug the power cord into a standard electrical outlet. Press the On/Off switch to begin the brewing cycle. The indicator light will illuminate.
- Brewing Process: Water will heat and drip through the tea into the carafe. The appliance will automatically shut off once the brewing cycle is complete.
- Serve: Once brewing is complete and the appliance has shut off, carefully remove the carafe. Allow at least two cups to brew before removing the pitcher to prevent dripping. Serve your fresh iced tea.
Making Iced Coffee
The Salton Iced Tea Maker can also be used to brew iced coffee. Follow the same steps as for iced tea, but replace tea with your preferred ground coffee.
- Prepare Coffee: Add your desired amount of ground coffee into the removable filter.
- Follow Steps 2-7 from the "Making Iced Tea" section.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your iced tea maker. Always unplug the appliance and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
Daily Cleaning
- Carafe and Lid: Wash the carafe and its lid in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry. The carafe is not dishwasher safe.
- Brewing Basket and Filter: Remove the brewing basket and filter. Discard used tea leaves or coffee grounds. Wash with warm, soapy water, rinse, and dry.
- Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the appliance with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the main unit in water.
Descaling (Monthly or as needed)
Mineral deposits from water can build up over time, affecting performance. Descale your tea maker regularly.
- Fill the water reservoir with a mixture of white vinegar and water (1:2 ratio).
- Place the empty brewing basket and carafe in position.
- Run a full brewing cycle with the vinegar solution.
- After the cycle, discard the solution and rinse the carafe and brewing basket.
- Run two full cycles with fresh, clean water to remove any residual vinegar taste.
