Alexa Gadgets & Echo Buttons
Learn how to set up and use Alexa Gadgets and Echo Buttons.
Getting Started:
Download the Alexa App
Download and install the Alexa app from your mobile device app store. Add the Alexa widget for easy home screen access.
- Open the app store on your mobile device.
- Search for Amazon Alexa app.
- Select Install.
- Select Open and sign in with your Amazon Account.
- Install Alexa widgets (optional).
Set Up Alexa Gadgets in the Alexa App
Use the Alexa App to connect your Alexa Gadget.
- Make sure your Alexa Gadget is powered on and in pairing mode per the manufacturers instructions.
- Open the Alexa app

- Select Devices
.
- Select Echo & Alexa.
- Select the Echo device you want to pair with your Alexa Gadget.
- Select Pair Alexa Gadget, and then select the Alexa Gadget you want to pair.
Set Up Alexa Gadgets on Your Echo Device with a Screen
To connect your Alexa Gadget, use your Echo device’s on-screen settings.
- Put your Alexa Gadget in pairing mode.
- Say, “Go to settings,” or swipe down from the top of the Echo device screen and select Settings.
- Select Device Options.
- Select Pair Alexa Gadget.
Set Up Alexa Gadgets with Your Voice
Use your voice to set up Alexa Gadgets with compatible Echo devices.
- Put your Alexa Gadget in pairing mode.
Tip: Use the manufacturer instructions to enable pairing mode.
- Say, “Set up my Gadget.”
Say, “Set up my Echo Button” to pair it with a compatible Echo device.
Connect Your Echo Button to Your Echo Device
- Insert two AAA batteries inside each Echo Button.
- Say, “Set up my Echo Button.”
- Put your Echo Button into pairing mode: Press and hold your Echo Button until it glows orange (about 10 seconds).
Use your Echo Button to program a Routine.
- Open the Alexa app
.
- Open More
and select Routines.
- Select the
icon, and give the routine a name if you’d like.
- Select When This Happens, and then select Echo Button.
- Press the physical Echo Button you want to use for your Routine, and then select Add in the Alexa app.
- Select Add action, and then choose which action it completes.
Repeat this step to add additional actions to your Routine.
- In the From section, select which Echo device completes the Routine.
- Select Create.
Troubleshooting:
Unpair Your Alexa Gadget in the Alexa App
To unpair your Alexa Gadget from your Echo Device.
- Open the Alexa app
.
- Select the Devices
icon.
- Select Echo & Alexa, and then select your Echo device.
- Under Connected Devices, select your Alexa Gadget.
- Select Unpair.
- Navigate to your Echo device and select Bluetooth Devices.
- Select the icon next to your Alexa Gadget and select Forget Device.
- Connect your Alexa Gadget to your Echo device again.
Unpair Your Alexa Gadget on Your Echo Device with a Screen
To unpair your Alexa Gadget from your Echo Device with a Screen.
- Say, “Go to settings,” or swipe down from the top of the screen and select Settings.
- Select Bluetooth.
- Select the
icon next to the device name.
- Select Forget Device.
Alexa Gadget is Unresponsive
To resolve most issues with connectivity or setup, unplug the power adapter from your Echo device and then plug it back in.
- Make sure that your Echo device is compatible with your Alexa Gadget. Reference the product detail page or manufacturer’s instructions for your Alexa Gadget.
- Make sure that your Echo device and the Alexa app have the latest software version.
- Confirm that your Alexa Gadget is listed under Connected Devices in the Alexa app. If you have an Echo device with a screen, confirm that your Alexa Gadget is listed in the Bluetooth section in Settings.
- Make sure your Alexa Gadget is powered on.
- If you’re using Alexa Skills, make sure the skill is enabled.
- If the skill is unresponsive, disable and re-enable the skill.
- Reach out to the manufacturer for further assistance.
The Echo Button can’t connect or is unresponsive.
- Echo Button pairs with only one Echo device at a time.
- Make sure that your Echo device and the Alexa app have the latest software version.
- Confirm that your Echo Button is listed under Connected Devices in the Alexa app.
- Remove and then reinsert two AAA batteries or try a new pair.
- Confirm that your Echo Button is within 30 ft (9 m) of your Echo device.
- Unplug the power adapter from your Echo device and then plug it back in.
- Reset your Echo Button and then try pairing it again.
If your Echo Button is unresponsive, unpair your device.
- Open the Alexa app
.
- Select the Devices
icon.
- Select Echo & Alexa, and then select your Echo device.
- Under Connected Devices, select Echo Buttons.
- Select Unpair.
If your Echo Button is unresponsive, unpair your device.
- Say, “Go to settings,” or swipe down from the top of the screen and select Settings.
- Select Bluetooth.
- Select the
icon next to the device name.
- Select Forget Device.
