4. Initial Setup

4.1. Battery Installation

4.2. Charging the Battery

The BF-5RH supports two charging methods: a base charger and a Type-C USB interface.

  • Using the Base Charger:
    1. Connect the AC adapter to the base charger and plug it into a power outlet.
    2. Place the radio (with battery installed) into the charging slot.
    3. The indicator light on the charger will show charging status (e.g., red for charging, green for fully charged).
  • Using Type-C USB Charging:
    1. Connect a Type-C USB cable to the radio's Type-C port.
    2. Connect the other end of the cable to a compatible USB power source (e.g., computer, USB wall adapter, power bank, car charger).
    3. The radio's display will indicate charging status.

A full charge typically takes approximately 2 hours. The 6000mAh battery provides about 48 hours of usage time and up to 5 days of standby duration.

4.3. Attaching the Antenna

  1. Screw the antenna clockwise into the connector on the top of the radio until it is finger-tight. Do not overtighten.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Power On/Off and Volume Adjustment

  • To turn on the radio, rotate the Power/Volume knob clockwise until you hear a click.
  • To turn off, rotate the knob counter-clockwise until it clicks.
  • Adjust the volume by rotating the Power/Volume knob.

5.2. Channel and Frequency Selection

The BF-5RH supports 999 channels and operates across six frequency bands:

  • FM: 68-108 MHz (Receive only)
  • AM: 108-136 MHz (Receive only)
  • 136-174 MHz (Transmit/Receive)
  • 220-260 MHz (Transmit/Receive)
  • 400-480 MHz (Transmit/Receive)
  • 350-390 MHz (Receive only)

Use the digital keyboard to directly input frequencies or navigate through saved channels. The VFO/MR button switches between Frequency Mode (VFO) and Channel Mode (MR).

5.3. Transmitting and Receiving

  • To transmit, press and hold the PTT (Push-To-Talk) button on the side of the radio. Speak clearly into the microphone.
  • Release the PTT button to receive.
  • Ensure you are on an appropriate frequency/channel before transmitting.

5.4. One-Click Frequency Matching

The BF-5RH features a convenient one-click frequency matching function for quick pairing with other compatible models.

To use this feature:

  1. Activate the frequency matching mode on your BF-5RH.
  2. The radio will scan for frequency and sub-audio frequency.
  3. Once a match is found, press the menu key to save it to a channel.

5.5. Flashlight Function
