4.3 Multi-Function Capabilities

The RBM2500D PRO offers six welding processes:
- Gas MIG (GMAW)
- Gasless Flux Core MIG (FCAW)
- Stick (MMA)
- Lift TIG
- Spot Welding
- Spool Gun (requires separate spool gun)
5. Setup
5.1 Power Connection
The machine operates on both 120V and 240V AC power. Use the provided power adapter to connect to the appropriate power source. Ensure the power outlet is properly grounded and can handle the machine's current requirements.
5.2 Gas Connection (for Gas MIG)
For Gas MIG welding, connect your shielding gas cylinder (e.g., CO2, Argon, or Argon/CO2 mix) to the gas inlet on the rear of the machine using the provided gas hose. Ensure all connections are tight and leak-free.
5.3 Wire Loading
- Open the wire compartment.
- Place the wire spool onto the spindle, ensuring it rotates freely.
- Select the appropriate wire feed wheel for your wire type (knurled for flux core, V-type for solid, U-type for aluminum) and install it.
- Thread the welding wire through the wire guide and into the wire feed mechanism.
- Close the wire pressing wheel to apply tension to the wire.
- Feed the wire through the MIG torch liner. Press and hold the wire selection button on the control panel for fast wire feed until the wire exits the torch nozzle.
5.4 Torch and Ground Clamp Connection
- Connect the MIG torch to the appropriate connector on the front panel.
- Connect the ground clamp cable to the ground terminal and attach the clamp securely to the workpiece.
- For Stick welding, connect the electrode holder to the positive terminal and the ground clamp to the negative terminal (or vice-versa depending on electrode type).
- For Lift TIG, connect the TIG torch (not included) to the negative terminal and the ground clamp to the positive terminal.
6. Operating Modes
6.1 MIG Welding (GMAW/FCAW)
The RBM2500D PRO offers both Synergic and Manual MIG modes:
- Synergic MIG: Simplifies setup. Select the wire material and diameter, and the machine automatically sets optimal voltage and wire feed speed.
- Manual MIG: Allows experienced welders to fine-tune parameters (voltage, wire feed speed, inductance) according to their preferences and specific welding conditions.
MIG Features:
- Inductance Adjustment: Helps reduce spatter and improves melt pool stability.
- Pre-gas (Pr gas) and Post-gas (Po gas): Adjust pre-blow and post-blow times for shielding gas, protecting the weld puddle and electrode.
- Wire Feed Speed: Can be adjusted to suit the application and material thickness.
2T/4T Functionality:
- 2T (Two-Touch): Welding starts when the gun switch is pressed and stops when released. Ideal for short welds.
- 4T (Four-Touch): Press the switch to start, release to continue welding, press again to stop. Facilitates long welding operations and reduces welder fatigue.
6.2 Stick Welding (MMA)
Select MMA mode. Adjust amperage based on electrode type and material thickness. Ensure proper polarity for the chosen electrode.
6.3 Lift TIG Welding
Select Lift TIG mode. Connect a TIG torch (not included). Initiate the arc by gently touching the tungsten electrode to the workpiece and lifting it slightly. This mode provides a stable arc for precise welding.
6.4 Spot Welding
Select Spot welding mode for quick, localized welds. This mode is useful for joining thin sheets of metal.
6.5 Spool Gun Operation
For optimal aluminum welding, a spool gun (not included) can be used. Connect the spool gun to the designated port. Select MAN MIG mode when operating with a spool gun.
7. Welding Aluminum
The RBM2500D PRO offers two methods for welding aluminum:
- Using the MIG Torch with Teflon Liner: The machine has pre-programmed selections for aluminum material and diameter. Install the included Teflon liner into your MIG torch. This liner reduces friction and prevents kinking of the softer aluminum wire.
- Using a Spool Gun (Not Included): For more consistent and reliable aluminum welding, especially with larger wire diameters, a dedicated spool gun is recommended. When using a spool gun, select MAN MIG mode on the machine.
Always use 100% Argon shielding gas when MIG welding aluminum.
8. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your welding machine.
- Cleaning: Regularly clean the machine's exterior and internal components (if accessible and safe to do so) to prevent dust and debris buildup, which can hinder cooling. Use compressed air to blow out vents.
- Cable Inspection: Periodically inspect all welding cables, power cords, and gas hoses for cuts, cracks, or damage. Replace damaged components immediately.
- Consumables: Check and replace MIG torch nozzles, contact tips, and electrodes as they wear out. Ensure wire feed wheels are clean and free of debris.
- Wire Liner: Inspect the MIG torch wire liner for wear or blockages. Replace if necessary, especially when switching wire types or experiencing feeding issues.
- Storage: Store the welding machine in a clean, dry environment when not in use.
9. Troubleshooting
This section provides solutions to common issues you might encounter.
9.1 No Power
- Check if the power cord is securely plugged into both the machine and the power outlet.
- Verify that the power switch on the machine is in the 'ON' position.
- Check the circuit breaker or fuse in your electrical panel.
9.2 No Arc / Weak Arc
- Ensure the ground clamp is securely attached to a clean, bare metal section of the workpiece.
- Check all cable connections for tightness and damage.
- For MIG, ensure the contact tip is not clogged or worn out.
- For Stick, ensure the electrode is dry and suitable for the application.
- For TIG, check tungsten electrode condition and gas flow.
9.3 Wire Feeding Problems (MIG)
- Check if the wire spool is tangled or binding.
- Ensure the correct wire feed wheel is installed and the tension is appropriate (not too loose, not too tight).
- Inspect the MIG torch liner for kinks or blockages.
- Verify the contact tip size matches the wire diameter.
9.4 Excessive Spatter (MIG)
- Adjust voltage and wire feed speed settings.
- Increase inductance if available.
- Ensure proper gas flow and correct shielding gas type.
- Check for proper stick-out.
If problems persist after attempting these solutions, contact customer support.
