The Satlink WS-6979 is a versatile combo signal finder designed for both DVB-S2 satellite and DVB-T2 terrestrial signal reception. This device features a 4.3-inch high-definition TFT LCD screen, spectrum analyzer, and constellation analyzer, making it an essential tool for accurate and efficient antenna and dish alignment. 4.1. Ports and Connectors

  • LNB IN (F-Type): For connecting to a satellite LNB.
  • ANT IN (Female F-Type): For connecting to a terrestrial antenna.
  • AV IN (3.5mm Jack): Audio/Video input for external sources.
  • AV OUT (3.5mm Jack): Audio/Video output to external display.
  • HDMI OUT: High-definition video output to a monitor or TV.
  • USB 2.0: For software upgrades and media playback.
  • DC IN: Power input for charging and operation.
  • Power Switch: On/Off control for the device.

5. Initial Setup

5.1. Charging the Battery

  1. Connect the provided Power Adaptor to the DC IN port on the WS-6979.
  2. Plug the adaptor into a standard electrical outlet (100-240VAC, 50/60Hz).
  3. The device will indicate charging status. Ensure the battery is fully charged before extensive use for optimal performance.
  4. Alternatively, use the Car Charger Cable to charge the device in a vehicle.

5.2. Powering On/Off

  • To power on, slide the Power Switch to the 'ON' position.
  • To power off, slide the Power Switch to the 'OFF' position.

5.3. Basic Connections

  • For Satellite Signal Finding: Connect your LNB cable to the LNB IN (F-Type) port.
  • For Terrestrial Signal Finding: Connect your terrestrial antenna cable to the ANT IN (Female F-Type) port.
  • External Display (Optional): Connect an HDMI cable from the WS-6979's HDMI OUT port to your TV/monitor, or use the AV OUT port with the provided AV cable.

6. Operation

6.1. Navigating the Menu

Use the directional keys (UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT) and the 'OK' button to navigate through the on-screen menu. The 'MENU' button typically returns to the previous screen or main menu, and 'EXIT' closes current functions.

6.2. Satellite Signal Finding (DVB-S/S2)

  1. From the main menu, select 'DVB-S2' or 'Sat/Tp Manager'.
  2. Choose the desired satellite from the list or add a new one.
  3. Configure LNB settings (e.g., LNB type, LO frequency, 22KHz tone, DiSEqC settings 1.0/1.1/1.2).
  4. Select a Transponder (TP) or perform a scan.
  5. Adjust your satellite dish while observing the signal strength and quality meters on the screen. The device will provide a sound and light alarm when a signal is locked.
  6. Utilize the 'Spectrum Analyzer' and 'Constellation Analyzer' for fine-tuning and diagnosing signal issues.
  7. Once the signal is optimized, perform an 'Auto', 'Blind', 'Manual', or 'NIT' scan to find channels.

6.3. Terrestrial Signal Finding (DVB-T/T2)

  1. From the main menu, select 'DVB-T2'.
  2. Select your region or manually enter channel frequencies.
  3. Ensure ANT Supply (5V, 12V/17V) is enabled if your antenna requires power.
  4. Adjust your terrestrial antenna while monitoring the signal strength and quality. The device will indicate signal lock with an alarm.
  5. Perform a channel scan to find available terrestrial broadcasts.

6.4. Media Playback (USB)

The WS-6979 supports playback of various media files (wma, mp3, mp4, avi, jpg, jpeg, bmp, img) via its USB 2.0 interface. Connect a USB storage device to the USB port and navigate to the media player function in the menu.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the device. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
  • Battery Care: To prolong battery life, avoid fully discharging the battery frequently. Charge the device regularly, even if not in use for extended periods.
  • Storage: Store the device in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Software Updates: Periodically check the manufacturer's website for software updates. Updates can be installed via the USB port.

8. Troubleshooting

No Power:
Ensure the battery is charged or the power adaptor is correctly connected. Check the power switch is in the 'ON' position.
No Signal/Weak Signal:
Verify all cable connections (LNB/Antenna to device). Check LNB/Antenna power settings. Ensure correct satellite/transponder or terrestrial frequency is selected. Adjust dish/antenna alignment slowly and precisely.
No Picture/Sound on External Display:
Check HDMI or AV cable connections. Ensure the external display is set to the correct input source. Verify the WS-6979 is outputting a signal (e.g., by checking its own screen).
Device Freezes/Unresponsive:
Try restarting the device by turning it off and on. If the issue persists, a software update might be required.
