ROJECO PD521 Electric Dog Training Collar User Manual

Model: PD521 | Brand: ROJECO

1. Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the ROJECO PD521 remote dog training collar. This product has been tested to meet stringent quality standards. Please refer to this manual for proper use and care.

1.1 Safety Instruction

  • Training collars are intended for training, not punishment. Use properly and with care.
  • Ensure the collar is a safe and effective tool for training, building communication, and strengthening your bond with your dog.
  • Obey all safety messages to avoid possible injury.
  • Do not use if your dog has heart disease, high blood pressure, cerebral thrombosis, skin allergies, etc.

1.2 Reinforce Learning Behaviors

If your dog knows a command but responds inconsistently, a training collar can help sharpen their skills. For example, if your dog responds slowly to a "come" command, you can use the remote transmitter to reinforce the command immediately.

  1. Set the collar to an initial stimulation level and test it.
  2. Fit the collar on your dog's neck along with its regular collar.
  3. Allow your dog to roam in the training area, then give the command and press the stimulation button simultaneously.
  4. If your dog moves toward you, stop stimulation and praise them.
  5. If your dog stops before reaching you or turns away, repeat the command and continue stimulation. Stop at the instant they run to you and reward them with praise or treats. Repeat this 3 or 4 times.

4.3 Operation and Charging

How to choose USB charger

Use a USB charger with the following parameters: Input: 100-240V ~ 50-60HZ, Output: 5V 1000mA (or 300mA/500mA). You can use a smartphone charger or laptop/computer USB interface.

Charge the receiver

  1. Remove the rubber cover, connect the receiver to a charger into a standard socket.
  2. The red indicator light will flash slowly when the receiver is charging. After fully charged, the red indicator light stays on.

Turn the receiver on and off

  • Turn On: Press the power button once. The receiver will make a short "beep" sound, indicating it is on.
  • Turn Off: Press the power button once. The receiver will make a long "beep" sound and the indicator light will no longer flash.

Check the receiver power

When the receiver is turned on, press the power button twice quickly to check the power:

  • 5 beeps: 100% (80-100%)
  • 4 beeps: 80% (60-80%)
  • 3 beeps: 60% (40-60%)
  • 2 beeps: 40% (20-40%)
  • 1 beep: 20% (1-20%)

4.4 How to Wear Receiver Collar Correctly

  • The receiver should be placed at the bottom of your dog's neck, with the screw caps directly contacting the skin.
  • If your dog has thick hair, use longer screw caps.
  • Maintain a finger's distance between the collar and your dog's neck. If too loose, static shock effectiveness will be reduced.
  • The extra part of the strap can be trimmed or managed by other methods.
  • Check the fit to prevent excessive pressure.
  • The charging rubber cap must be closely covered when your dog is swimming to prevent water damage. Taking off the receiver is recommended during swimming.
  • The receiver will turn off automatically after 10 seconds of continuous "beep" sound when the battery is low.

7. Troubleshooting (FAQ)

Common Questions

  • Q: How old must my dog be to use the training collar?
A: Do NOT use on puppies younger than 6 months.
  • Q: Can I use this training collar for more than one dog?
A: Yes, you can add one or two receiver collars to the system to control two or three dogs, as three dog channels are available with one remote transmitter.
  • Q: What should I do if my dog's neck becomes red and irritated?
A: Stop using the collar for a few days. If the condition persists beyond 48 hours, consult your veterinarian. Monitor your dog's skin closely even if it normalizes.
  • Q: Can I attach a leash to the receiver collar?
A: NO. This can pull the screw caps (contact points) too tightly against your dog's neck. Use a separate collar placed above the receiver collar for leash attachment.
  • Q: How do I know when to charge the batteries?
A: For the Remote Transmitter, the battery level icon is displayed on the left-down side of the LCD screen. For the Receiver, press the power button twice quickly to check the battery level; if only one beep is emitted, charge it immediately.
  • Q: How long can I leave the receiver collar on my dog?
A: The receiver collar is not designed for constant wear. We recommend wearing it less than 18 hours per day.
  • Q: How long should a training session be?
A: Training sessions should be positive and short, ideally 10-15 minutes each time.
  • Q: What are the proper levels of static shock for my dog?
A: Start with the lowest level and gradually increase to find the best suitable level. Excessive stimulation will cause a strong response.
  • Q: What is the effective distance of my dog training collar?
A: Without obstacles, the effective distance can be up to 1000 meters. However, factors like telecom signals, magnetic fields, obstacles, battery volume, other wireless devices, land form, and vegetation can influence the actual effective distance.
  • Q: Once my dog is trained, is it still necessary to wear the receiver collar?
A: Yes, you may need to reinforce your dog's memory with the receiver collar from time to time.
  • Q: Any other better training methods?
A: Use dog food as a training incentive. After correcting misbehavior, tell your dog what was supposed to be done and what was not. With repetitions, your dog will understand.
  • Q: I want to test static shock function of receiver collar myself, but it does not work, is anything wrong?
A: When testing the receiver collar by hand or leg, you must touch both 2 screw caps (electrodes) at the same time. Touching only one will not work.

7.1 The dog training collar does not work, or my dog does not respond after correct installation of the dog training collar, how should I solve this problem?

  1. Make sure the battery of the remote transmitter and receiver collar have enough power to operate.
  2. Check to see if the receiver collar is turned on.
  3. Check the signal channel button on the remote transmitter to ensure signal channels are correctly configured.
  4. Try to pair the remote transmitter and receiver again.
  5. Take off the receiver collar and test all three functions to work properly.
  6. Make sure the receiver collar is properly worn and not loose.
  7. Trim your dog's hair where the screw caps (contact points) can touch the neck.

8. User Tips

  • If your dog doesn't respond to the training initially, don't give up or immediately increase stimulation. Try working on it a few times.
  • Ensure your dog makes the mental connection between the static shock/vibration/beep and their behavior. This may take a week or more for some dogs.
  • Both methods of stopping unwanted behavior and reinforcing learning behaviors can be applied to nearly every training scenario.
