4. Setup and Installation
4.1 Important Wiring Notice
PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE INSTALLATION:
-
Strict Voltage Limit: The Maximum Open Circuit Voltage (Voc) of your solar panel array must be LESS THAN 60V. Exceeding this voltage will damage the controller.
- Do NOT connect panels in series (string) if the total voltage exceeds 60V.
- Recommended: Connect panels in PARALLEL to increase current while keeping voltage safe.
-
Connection Order: Follow this sequence precisely to avoid damage to the controller or battery.
- Step 1: Connect the Battery to the controller first. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -). The controller's screen will turn on.
- Step 2: Connect the Solar Panel to the controller second. Ensure correct polarity.
- Step 3: Connect the DC Load (if applicable) to the controller third. Ensure correct polarity.
Reverse the order when uninstalling: Disconnect Load, then Solar Panel, then Battery.

5. Operation
5.1 LCD Display and Button Operation
The controller features a clear LCD display and easy-to-use buttons for monitoring and configuration.
Figure 6: LCD Data Dashboard with monitoring points and USB ports.
- Real-time Monitoring: The LCD displays battery voltage, charging current (Amps), temperature, and system status.
- Easy Button Operation: Use the buttons below the LCD to navigate through menus and adjust settings. A long press (hold for 3 seconds) on the 'Set' button typically allows entering or exiting setting modes.
- Dual USB Ports: Located on the front panel, these ports provide 5V/2A output for charging small electronic devices.
5.2 Battery Type Selection and Parameter Adjustment
The controller allows customization of charging parameters to suit different battery types. Refer to the detailed user manual (included in the box) for specific instructions on how to access and modify these settings (Float Voltage, Low Voltage Disconnect (LVD), Low Voltage Reconnect (LVR)).
6. Maintenance
To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your solar charge controller, perform the following maintenance checks periodically:
- Visual Inspection: Check all wiring connections for tightness and corrosion. Ensure no wires are frayed or damaged.
- Cleanliness: Keep the controller clean and free from dust and debris. Ensure the cooling fan vents are not obstructed.
- Temperature: Monitor the operating temperature. While the active cooling system is designed to prevent overheating, ensure adequate ventilation around the unit.
- Battery Health: Regularly check your battery's state of charge and overall health. Ensure battery terminals are clean and secure.
7. Troubleshooting (FAQ)
- Q: Is this a "True" MPPT controller?
- A: Yes, it uses MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) technology with a Buck converter topology to step down voltage and increase current. It is significantly more efficient than PWM controllers.
- Q: Does it work with 24V batteries?
- A: Yes. It automatically detects 12V or 24V systems upon connection. Note: For 24V systems, ensure your solar panel voltage is within the 30V-55V range.
- Q: Why does it have a fan?
- A: The fan actively removes heat, allowing the controller to run at full 30A power without overheating. This design enhances durability, especially in hot climates.
- Q: Can I charge a completely dead lithium battery?
- A: Yes, if the battery voltage is sufficient for the controller to power up, it can initiate charging. Please ensure the battery voltage is within the recognition range for the controller to detect it.
8. User Tips
- For optimal performance, always ensure your solar panels are clean and free from shading.
- When setting up, double-check all polarities before making final connections to prevent damage.
- Consider installing the controller in a well-ventilated area, even with the active cooling fan, to further aid heat dissipation.
- If you experience inconsistent charging, verify that your solar panel's open-circuit voltage (Voc) does not exceed 60V, especially during colder temperatures when Voc can be higher.
